Olympics: Jerseys (Part II)

I don't know if I'm just spending too much time looking at the jerseys, but it looks like a lot of players are wearing really loose (size) jerseys, not fitting that well. I doubt they'd pick wrong size so maybe it has something to do with the fabric and design itself.

OT: The violet/purple "Sochi" theme in the boards is a bit too striking. Very unsual to see that kind of color on the boards. It sort of gives a feeling like the colors on the tv picture were burnt out or something. :D The Shayba Arena (the smaller one) seems to have blue colors instead.

Yeah I found that site too but I noticed that the color of the numbers on the white jerseys was wrong, so it didn't seem to legit to me.

Its as legit as you will find. I only found it after being given the link by the Official Slovenian Olympic team Twitter account. Itak told me that Nikes were only being made for the players. The search continues....

I am so happy. Ordered a red Team Canada Jamie Benn jersey, cause he's a Vancouver Island boy, which is also where I'm from....aaaand he has a monster game. Money well spent I'd say :yo:

a bit of info about Slovenian jerseys

somebody asked where does the green color come from

well, forest covers nearly 60% of Slovenian territory (Slovenia is afrer Sweden and Finland the third most forested country in Europe), so we somehow identify ourselves with this fact - as a green country

furthermore, slovenian citizens recognize green linden leaf as our informal symbol, after our coat of arms

this two facts and a green color were included in Slovenia promotional campaign in the years of independence process, with linden leaf as a main element (with a bit of neon green shade in it), as shown:

our nation is a bit nostalgic about this element in the years of the formation of our independence

not to mention that neon green is popular these days, Seahawks and so on

[mod] Ice hockey team was until recently the only one that played in the national white-blue-red colours and they were in fact the only team in the country where fans didnt argue about jersey colours. In football the opposition was so strong (because football is the most popular sport in the country by far) that they had to change the colours back to white (primary) and blue (secondary) in 2011 (between 1994-2011 two primary colours were white and dark green). The opposition remains though because green partialy remains on the jerseys (instead of red) and because they have decided for neon blue instead of normal flag (or ice hockey) blue, even though that the former president of the Slovenian Football Association and its board unanimously opted to change the colours back to national flag colours (one of the main reasons, next to the strong opposition from lots of fans, was also the fact that they had almost zero jersey sales between 94 and 11), but they were overthrown from Office (with lots of politics involved as he was replaced by a personal lawyer of the current Ljubljana mayor - with him likely being the instigator of the board reform) before the jersey change could happen in 2011 when Nike deal needed to be extended. In fact, before 2011 when the Ljudski vrt stadium in Maribor was the biggest and most modern (renovated in 08) stadium in the country the football team was not allowed to play in the away (dark green) versions of their jerseys at that venue. The team eventually went undefeated at home during the 2010WC qualifications campaign with only two goals conceeded in six games on that stadium. The Ice hockey federation, when they have changed the jersey colours ,stated that it was temporary and that the colours will change back to normal after the Olympics. I doubt they will but even those statements show that they were affraid of the public/fan outrage in case that they would have simply stated that the colours are new from now on and that they will remain as such. It somewhat easier for them now not the reverse the decision when they already made the change. All those things clearly show that there is a problem. Who doesnt see is delusional.

Got my red Benn jersey in the mail today! Love the super light feel, bit long on the waist but the sleeves are absolutely perfect. Hated them when I saw the originally leaked photo but they've totally grown on me since the release and I think they look real classic on the ice.

Has this already been mentioned? But Canada black jerseys have a maple leaf wrapped around the neck that are deeper black. USA has the same type of deeper black stars on the shoulders. I wonder who stole who's idea on the deeper black type theme.

I would hazard a guess nobody "stole" the idea. It was all Nike deciding to include that element on both jerseys. I doubt there was a ton of input from the national hockey federations on the designs. If that were the case I'm pretty sure Slovenia would be wearing red and blue. I believe that Nike may have consulted the national Olympic committees on these. Which accounts for why they all have the faux laces and other plastic looking elements on the jerseys. But I suspect Nike designers drew up two or three designs per country and let the NOCs choose which one.

I think that Canada's jerseys actually look worse on the ice. Not feeling the weird armband thing at all. I thought it was ridiculous when they released the blacks and everyone said that they looked like nazi uniforms. But after seeing them today in action, they kind of do... Bummer because I was considering picking up a Vlasic.

I really like the US white jerseys, but I think that the blues with blue shorts are going to look incredibly stupid. Not enough contrast.

I really like Austria's jerseys. They have a great crest.

Norway, Sweden and Switzerland are all bland and boring.

I'm buying a black Subban tomorrow. They look great on the ice and I've seen the jerseys here on the street and they are of that rare breed of hockey kit that actually looks half decent as normal clothing.

Agree with those saying many of the jerseys look much better on ice.

Simplicity rules.

In my opinion those are garbage. Or at the very least, not very good. They're okay I guess, and I'd sport and authentic, but they are not anything classic.

I hate the Olympic jerseys for one main reason the fake lace up (and the other glossy stuff around the collars). It's just so lame. Either have it lace up for real or don't. This is just ugly. Fortunately during play I don't notice it but as soon as they show someone sitting on the bench I roll my eyes in disgust.

Nearly all the jerseys look really, really nice. The shinny stuff on the shoulders is totally superfluous, as are the fake laces, but they look great on TV.

Still though, I think the red Canada uniform is pretty awful. I especially don't like the way it looks from behind. The one arm stripe looks weird but what really bothers me is the big white tag on the bottom right

And I bet Russia breaks out these bad boys for tomorrow against the USA.

I thought Canada in all black looked pretty intimidating. I like San Jose's black jerseys as well. It's an awesome look

So are the black Canada jerseys just being worn during this preliminary round???

I dont think there is any hard rules about what they will wear when.

I bet that if Canada and Russia meet at any point that Canada will wear black, though they could go Can/white vs. Rus/red. But if Russia wants to wear their "white" jersey, I think Canada basically has no choice but to go black.

Frankly I don't like the red uniform, white is okay, but I think the black looks best. They have Cherry's seal of approval, which is good enough for me. He says they're intimidating. I think it fits quite well into the theme of the tournament anyways. We are the bad guys over there, lets embrace it!

Yeah having seen the black Canada jerseys in action yesterday, I dig em'

If I ever bought an Authentic (only if they go on sale for half off after the games) it'd probably be the black one.

Definitely was thinking that while watching the Canada-Austria game... kind of like an unstoppable movie villain. Which kind of makes sense... I'm guessing as the reigning gold-medallists/historical hockey opponent/winner of the 2010 blowout loss, Canada is probably seen as villains in the Russian narrative. On tv, as a team in all black, they reminded me of that Bryzgalov 2010 quote: "they came like gorillas coming out of a cage"

As someone who really disliked the black jersey when it was first revealed, I am slowly coming around due to how sharp the entire kit looked on hd

I hate that the Slovenian jersey has "Slovenia" written on the front rather than "Slovenija".

The Canadian jerseys look ridiculous with the asymmetrical armband. I had not seen any of the jerseys prior to their first game and that was the absolute first thing I noticed. Not a fan.

I think my favorite overall uniform is the Finnish whites, not because the jersey is just so amazing, but I think it looks really cool paired with the white socks with two vertical stripes.

Second favorite is the Slovenian blues that they just wore against Slovakia.
