Player Discussion Jeremy Swayman

Swayman has used Sports Psychologists throughout his amatuer and pro careers.
From a 10/23 The Atheletic article:
"At the University of Maine, Swayman worked with sports psychologist Wally Bzdell. In Boston, he leans on Steve Durant and Max Offenberger. Throughout his life, father Ken Swayman has been his son’s counsel. Swayman credited them with helping him achieve blue-brain status, where he’s calm under duress."

All I can say is Jeremy, back on the couch, dude! :naughty:

I set the filter for a minimum of 20 games. Absolutely brutal.

You’re very right about that.

EVERYONE on this board wanted him locked up long term and were pissed because they thought the Bruins were lowballing him.

He had a bad offseason and everyone had a bad training camp. I think everyone should cool off and see what next season brings.

Not all of us. Several myself included wanted to keep the tandem intact and sign Swayman to a bridge deal. We didn’t trust that he could handle the workload of a #1 goaltender and didn’t think his playoff success was a strong enough indicator of future performance.

Fair enough.

I was in the “we need cap space to sign a top line center” camp, and definitely thought Swayman’s playoff success was enough of a justification.

I loved the tendie bromance as much as anyone, but Bruins have always been able to find good goaltending and I don’t think they could have kept both because I doubt Swayman would sign a bridge deal.

Next year should yield better results.

I have never fully trusted Swayman due to stamina and consistency issues. That said, thought they were right to trade Ullmark but the contract was too rich. I want Swayman gone yesterday. His stamina/consistency issues are ten times worse than I thought and will persist at some level.

Furthermore, I was disgusted how he stuck it to the Bruins with the contract. Normally I am a free-market king and say they should get whatever the Market will bear, but there are exceptions. This was definitely one. Moreover, he broke the culture at a time it was vulnerable due to soft players and Monty.

I am not against any palyer getting the money, but one of the biggest questions with Swayman is could he hold up and carry the load himself, he failed. The contract talks in my opinion is on management, they traded away any leverage they when they moved Ullmark. I know Ullmark had a contract that changed his protection list July first, and that is why they moved him. Sweeney, put himself in a bad position when he made that trade Swayman and his agent smelled the opportunity and jumped all over it. This team this was dysfunctional not from training camp but prior to when Swayman, was in charge and Montys contract talks took a bad turn, they had him on a short leash should have let him go after the season last year. Sweeney felt he had to go out and get #1 center he failed at that also, should have put the waited until there was legit #1 availble and build with wings for the time being. I put this awful season on Sweeney and Swayman, and they will not move on from both, but at least move on from one, and that would be Swayman, before that no trade clause kicks in and he is back in the drivers seat again.

Honestly, with a few outliers on the top teams, its seems like it was a down year overall for goalies.
Even Shesterkin had his struggles after his big contract.
Hellybuck is Hellybuck..HOFer all the way, considering some of the teams he's held above water on his own at times in WPG. He is and seems to always be the outlier. Underappreciated nationally, due to where he plays.

"EVERYONE"? Not the way I remember it. I would say it was 50/50 between the "Sign him for whatever he wants" and the "He's never been a #1, he shouldn't be looking to set any market of any kind" camps. I was firmly in the latter, as were many others.

If the Bruins can swap Swayman for a top 6 forward (23-25 y old) or a top 4 dman (23-26 y old), you do this all day long.
carolina needs a goalie and apparently they arent too happy with svechnikov. try to swing for the fences in a blockbuster trade to improve our top 6 forwards.

That wasn't my experience.

I think most fans wanted him locked up long-term at the end of the playoffs, but by the end of the summer the majority of fans had flipped and were on the Bruins side of the negotiation. I think most fans were pretty upset/disappointed in Swayman, especially on this site. The Boston media jumped on the bandwagon and piled on with more Swayman hate and by the time he signed there were few left in Swayman's corner, most of us were left trying to find a way to move on and root for him again.

If the Bruins can convince Seattle for a Daccord / Swayman swap, do it. Daccord would be coming home and Swayman back in the NorthWest, where some comfortability of being closer to home for him might help with his pschye.

I would jump all over that........Add Loheri and Poitras to the package and get Wright.

I didnt at the time want to sign swayman to a significant deal. i wanted to sign him for under 7 million. When he set the market for a player with his lack of experience and still under team control, he did the entire goalie market in the future a disservice by showing that the bruins trust and confidence in his ability was misguided.

They ponied up and gave him big money and he failed to deliver, more so than any resigning Sweeney has made by a significant margin.

If they can trade him without eating money they should do it, regardless of the return. It doesnt matter if hes good or not going forward. allocating substantial resources against a hard cap league at the goalie position is not worth the pay off. Only a truly special talent can elevate an average team. He is not truly special.

He thinks he is special.

Get rid of him and the people who thought it was a good idea to sign him

He and his agent were public in their negotiation, then he became a distraction, finally he signed then was bad and finally, he did not behave like a number 1.

He's going to have to find a way to absorb the pressure and guard the goals like a No. 1 goalie. Otherwise, the Bruins will be in trouble.

I don't remember all how it happen. But not sure the strategy letting Ullmark go w/o Sway signed was a great Bruins management.
