Player Discussion Jeremy Swayman

When Swayman is bad for the same number of games (and years) as he was good - I don't deny the bad year he is having, as is the whole team this year, but the fact is Swayman has been a good goalie his whole professional (and amateur) career before this year - one year, as disastrous as it is, does not make him a bad goalie - especially when you're playing behind an AHL talent level team and defence.
I think the majority of the vitriol is about how he handled the offseason, put himself first, missed camp, and then has stunk. Clearly seen shots are going in from the blueline. Team is not what it was defensively but Korpi, while flawed, will make a few of those saves you need.

Swayman has been crap run over. And he's an issue in the room, whether people want to believe it or not.

100% his agent and why it also became a media side show

If Im swayman Im not happy with my agent behind closed doors. The money is nice, but I bet if he could go back, and take 500k less in exchange for no fiasco under a different agent I bet he does it. Reducing stress is invaluable.
Agent held a gun to Swayman's head and told him to say all that stupid stuff and still does?

He has had success as a backup but handling a full load was always the question as that was unproven. Teams watch film and are figuring him out. His media campaign to get paid with 1 series win was very good though

This situation kind of reminds me of when QB Rob Johnson had 1 (ONE) great game when he was with the Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills not only traded for him but then signed him to a huge deal. He never reached that level of performance again.

Swayman is looking more & more like Johnson- a small body of excellent work leading to a huge payday but then not being able to repeat that level of excellence on a larger scale that "earned" him that payday.

Hopefully Swayman can turn it around. I'd give him the summer & training camp working with Bob Essensa to straighten his issues out.

Sway needs to pick his spots better, if he was actually good at stopping pucks, he might have more weight to be vocal but as of now, guy is a middle of the road goalie, might change, it better, B`s have zero back up plan if he continues next year playing like garbage

Stop some pucks, then I may listen to ya Sway

I am sure the agent was a big part of negotiating this contract and subsequent hold out, but Swayman, bragged about his business degree, so I think he shares the bulk of the responsibility, agents' job is to land a contract in the best interest of his client. I get it that this agent, is not someone many of us would want share a cocktail with, but he had a job. Many players have tough contract talks, and many reach a point where they tell the agent get it done. I do not absolve Sway, of any of the negative vibes that came out of this mess. I do not think he should have got that contract, but I will say he mouth and attitude is what is causing many to turn on him, and his play is accelerating those feelings.

This is it. With his personality he's either going to be seen as confident or arrogant but he's the same guy in both cases. If he's playing well and winning his actions and his comments will be seen as extreme confidence and nothing rattles him etc. But if he's playing poorly and losing (which he is) the same things will be seen as arrogant and people will yell "just stop the puck". This is who he is. I still really think what he needs is a full summer with a good sports psychologist.
I know it's fiction, but basically the same way they fixed Jamie Tartt on Ted Lasso.

There have been a few points in here about moving Swayman. Not only does he have a NMC for the next few years (followed by NTC protection), but even if he didn’t have it, which team would take on 7 more years at $8.25M AAV after the year he has had?

He and the Bruins are chained together. All we as fans can do is hope he puts this season behind him and becomes the top 5-10 goalie he was projected to be before this season.

Edit: as pointed out below, his NMC doesn’t kick in for another season. My mistake.

His NMC doesn't start until the 2026/27 season.

He does not have a NTC, at this time.
