I really wish Gross simply hadn't leaked the offer from the Bruins to Spittin'. This is where everything went sour. Up until that point, it was a closed door negotiation. Now everyone is in the mud slinging it around. Can we all agree that it started there?

To be clear, I'm not certain on the money he deserves or should get but rather angry that the whole situation took a curve in the wrong direction and I think the entire fanbase could agree it started right there.

it started last year when Swayman mentioned in separate interviews the hardships he had to endure hearing who the Bruins were comparing him too and having to chin up and play on. Poor guy. It continued when he went on video bragging about his business degree shield of armor he's proudly wearing and that he knows who is comparables are and insinuated he wants to be a goaltender salary trailblazer. Then it was the leaked info to Chicklets and that seemed to be the last straw as far as letting their side bitch in the media without firing back.

Nah. Your comps are based on position and what specific players are making because of where they play. Mine was based on the market value for the entire league regardless of what position and stats of similar players at that position did.

How is it 2024 and people still don't understand that contracts are paying for future expected performance?

Is said performance guaranteed? Because the contract sure is. If Boston pays him $9.5 (which they won’t) can Swayman guarantee them two Vezinas and two Cups? If not then Boston is taking a risk too. And 8/8 (or 7.8/8) is what they’re willing to risk. If he doesn’t like it let him see how many other teams are willing to risk more.

Edit: at 9.5 Boston is assuming *all* of the risk. That’s not how it works, bro. They’re guaranteeing you an 8 year contract, you have to give something in return too. Or we can just go game to game, and if you ever lose two in a row you can go back to Alaska and pump gas with your business degree. Your call.

Every player in any arbitration gets low balled and shit on. Even if mcdavid himself went to arbitration, the management would highlight all of his flaws. It’s the cost of doing business in any negotiation.

Or… well maybe not anymore. So many fans have made up their minds about Swayman now - so much so that they’re willing to take a massive L who seems to have a not so good reputation just to never see him in a Bruins uniform again.

...and that would be too bad. Swayman is/was VERY popular with Bruin's fans (kids love him). He is just naive and (IMO) swayed by his agent who seems to not have a very good reputation.

I really hope this works out and he gets signed...and ditches his agent.

It doesn't matter what type of comps are used, you literally said on multiple occassions that comps are useless in negotiations. Period. But then just showed you have to use then, proving them not useless.

No, I used the market. You can split hairs if you want, but I did not use any goalie to reach the numbers. I could also have just as easily pulled the numbers out of thin air because what a goalie signed for 4 years ago is irrelevant to what a guy signs for today. The money is different because the market is different, player comps aside.

Friedman confirmed it as so this morning. The Bruins felt like the negotiations went public. It's not that it was only numbers leaking, it was said that the Bruins "lowballed" Swayman and haven't returned Gross' calls for three weeks. It was a public shot at the Bruins' credibility and reputation while negotiations were taking place.

Thank you. I really see that as the point where I tuned out and just begun checking in for real updates.

Since that moment, the entire thing has become a circus and public display of a negotiation.

A mess.
