Has Swayman proven he's worth $9x8? You would give in because the alternatives seem worse? It's been proven you can win without a top 5 paid goalie. Plus, Swayman has no leverage except sitting out.

Top 5 paid goalies sure have been winning a lot of cups lately though. On top of that there been a top 5 paid goalie in each of the last 6 Stanley cup finals.

It certainly doesn’t seem to be something that holds teams back.

How many make more than the $9+ asking price Swayman wants as a RFA?

No. Yes. No and then yes. No again, but maybe yes.

I am thinking maybe I am right but at the same time being wrong at the same time:

It’s actually funny if you go back to the post game threads and game day threads for when we played against korpisalo.

There’s a whole post game thread convo about how lucky we are to have Ullmark/swayman and how lucky we are to not be a poverty franchise and stuck with bad goalies like korpisalo.

The game day threads had comments like “and this is what bad goal tending looks like”

There are comments saying “if ottawa has swayman/Ullmark instead of korpisalo/forsberg then they are likely a playoff team.

Now that he gets traded here it’s a completely different tune.
I hope that having the Ullmark/Forsberg tandem gives the Sens a shot of making the playoffs.

What is his leverage?

What exactly is his leverage?

Holding out?
Hoping Boston's other goalies faulter?
Request a trade?
Price himself out of Boston's economic plan?
Doing so may force Boston to trade other player's hurting overall team depth just to fit the cap.
Same leverage any good player has.

That he's a good player. That the team is better with him than without.

If he had "no leverage" then he'd be in line for whatever Sweeney decided to give him, no? Zero leverage? League minimum. That or zero. You have no leverage.

Every time I read it, it's astounding how nonsense it is.

We are talking about contract leverage in a business sense. In current CBA, Swayman can agree to contract with Bruins, hold out, play in Europe and Bruins keep his rights for extra year. If Swayman doesnt play, Bruins are a worse team no doubt. Doesn't mean you agree to a contract you believe is an overpay. Bruins somehow managed to negotiate big deals with Pasta and McAvoy pretty easy. No one said they took discounts. Weird its only Swayman and Lewis Gross have had issues negotiating with them.

If Don Sweeney is willing to throw away an entire season over his ego. Well, good thing he sucks up to Cam and Harry.

It’s the same leverage any good player has and the reason why the Bruins are willing to offer him 6 or 7 million a year instead of a league minimum. I don’t think he has any real leverage to drive the price much higher than that.

Yes we are talking about business sense. If he had no leverage then the B's would have him signed for 6 years at $3.8m a year.

And Sweeney has agreed to plenty of contracts that were overpays. Most of them on players who were bottom half of the roster guys.

Perhaps you should look up Bill Veeck. About 50 years ago he said: "It isn't the high price of stars that is expensive, it's the high price of mediocrity."

Who was the idiot GM that over paid the useless Chris Kelly? There have been plenty of over-pays for mediocre crap over the years, but we choose to play hardball with a Vezina caliber goalie? How friggin stupid if that’s the case.

I would go five years 37.5 and not think twice. Does anyone have any idea what the asking price is?

Pretty confident in saying it’s more than 5 years $37.5M. But no one knows.

I would go multiple years less money and less years more money. Maybe trade him. Maybe make him sit out. Maybe I could keep speculating about what I don’t know.

Decisions, decisions.

Imagine if it came out that Swayman deliberately waited until the day before the season starts to sign because he was mad they traded his buddy Ullmark away and it had nothing to do with money.

Not playing. Thus, forcing Sweeney to ride Korpisaloland then answering questions when he inevitably shits the bed. He might be an ok stop gap, but he’s not a full time solution
Sure, that's one plan. You don't get paid or earn any service time, but yeah, it's an option.

Would never happen. The players on the team would never go for it and he’d be gone immediately.

He s asking too much why he hasn’t been paid. We know that. I trust Sweeney not the player’s agent.

What has Sweeney really done to earn this blind devotion. We went 4 straight years with Sweeney having to pay to move on from one of his mistakes to add.
