I'm as big a Weber fan as there is and I admit I'm surprised by this. Stats are impressive but no Norris and no Cup. Maybe the two gold medals and being Captain of two teams helped.

Or maybe they are making it up to him for getting screwed put of the Norris twice.

But whatever, congrats to Shea, the first Preds draftee to make the Hall
...it's not oh you win the award or nothing. It's not making it up, that he lost by 9/12 pts is a big factor. It's clear he was a Norris caliber player multiple years and consistently top 10.

I am continuously surprised how people view this guy with the nearest 2 Norris 2nd place finishes, who was considered a top 3 Dman of the early 2010s for being elite 2way. Loved by old school mindsets & analytics is not a 1st ballot guy.

I don't get Weber fans or not, having a confusion. Fans have complained for years it's not about cups, it's individuals. When someone gets in as an individual, suddenly they're dumbfounded

I agree that AlMo was a bit of an underachiever compared to his talent, but he is also significant for defecting and for his international career.. he's in the triple gold club.

He’s in the Triple Gold Club because he was a passenger (7 pts in 23 games) on a Stanley Cup team.

Prior to that, he was a passenger (3 pts in 10 games) on a ludicrously overpowered World Championship team.

Prior to that, his Olympic gold came in the pre-professional era when the Soviets were the only team icing top players… and even in that context he was just a kid playing in the middle 6.

In between all that, during the actual meat of his career when it mattered, he had two noteworthy seasons and about a dozen where it was easy to forget he was even in the league.

That leaves the defection. While a nice story, it’s not a reason to put a player in the HHOF. Certainly not if you’re gonna leave out all the other guys who also risked their necks during that era. Induct them as a cohort? Sure.

Don’t get me wrong, he’ll get in because he’s the player du jour in these conversations. Eventually the committee will buckle to the pressure and let him through. Then we’ll turn our attention to someone else who doesn’t belong, someone we’re not talking about at all right now, and some of us will be scratching our heads and thinking “this guy was never even dreamed of as a HHOF’er when he was on the ice, why are we talking about him as a snub 20 years later?”.

I love JR, but he is a bit of a douche. Really glad he made it, but understand why other fans don't like him, especially after the TV announcing hot takes.
I'm amazed in the poll here Weber was only at 20 votes as of this morning. He seemed clear as day a lock to get in 1st year, he was well praised his total career.

The Mogliny obsession online is weird. Yes, he deserves to get in, but what has changed? Roenick has desvered to be in for over a decade too. Where was the passion for him?

I'm not saying he isn't. I like Weber. He was one of the best d-men of his era and should have won a Norris. All I'm saying is like Lowe, he is getting in with seemingly less than standcout credentials. Suter will be similar.
Less than standout credentials?

Is there any player with two 1st AS team and two 2nd AS team nods who isn't in the Hall? A forward with those accomplishments would be seen as a 1st ballot lock.

Big Canadian boy.
Markov has similar career stats but is Russian and outproduced Weber (despite being 7 years older at the time) when they played together will never get in for example.
Same for Mogilny. Politics play a role.
Well I liked Markov but Weber has about twice as many goals as Markov in the same number of games, and is 15th all time for goals by a D, and was a top 3 finisher for the Norris 3 times, and in the top 10 Norris 7 times, whereas Markov was only top 10 twice, and was never top 3. Weber was an All-Star pick 4x (Markov 2x).

In 2014, I feel like Weber got screwed out of the Norris because he played for the Predators (bad team that year) while Keith played for an original six team that made the playoffs. Keith won with 61 points and only 6 goals, beating Weber who had 55 points and 23 goals. Keith had a better plus minus ( a lot of that is the team though, since teams that are bad have more goals scored against them and score fewer).

Weber also won the hardest shot 4x, which is impressive when you consider it is the hardest shot in the entire league; only one person has registered a harder shot than his (108.1 mph) since they started measuring it (Chara).

How is Weber eligible if he's still on ir?

The Pronger Rule. Was put in when Progress career ended due to injury but he still had a ton of term on his contract. They didn't want to make someone of his stature wait forever.

Players are now eligible regardless of contract status providing they haven't played any professional games in 3 years.

John LeClair is a 5x All Star. 3x 1st team and 2x 2nd team. He was top 10 in league scoring 4 times and top 10 in goals 6 times. None of these other “snubs” peaked as high as he did.

I think it would have been nice to have Datsyuk and Zetterberg enter the same year. Not a big deal though.
