What an insane turn around for Jeff Skinner:

- bought out so he’s still getting paid from his old crazy contract
- another $3m a year to add to this
- from never competing in a post season to instantly getting on a contender
- from no real future in the league to becoming a winger on a line with the best player in the NHL

He had bad luck leaving Carolina right before they turned things around but he also made it clear he only wanted to play close to home (Toronto). So he could've accepted a trade to a better team than Buffalo but didn't and thus he hasn't sniffed postseason hockey.

Might be jumping the gun a bit. Hyman is a significantly better LW than Skinner. Maybe he plays with McDavid, but he could just as easily end up with Draisaitl or possibly even play like shit and get buried further down the lineup.
Is it even possible to play like shit on a line with McD ?

There’s never really been a correlation between him and his teams not making the playoffs. Both organizations were struggling to put a complete team together during his time. His draft position jumped right before his draft because he scored 20 goals in 20 games in what would be his last playoffs. Always thought he’d be a good big game player if he could get in some big games.

He made his choice to go to Buffalo to be close to home, so you can’t say it’s not on him but if he can get into playoff games while he can still contribute I think he’ll have something to offer. It wouldn’t nor shouldn’t be a surprise. His nose around the net could lead to a lot of playoff goals even without a superstar feeding him.

Oilers haven't made the 24/25 postseason yet. Maybe he's jinxed, and oilers miss it next year 🤷

Hyman plays RW.

There's a strong possibility we see..

Skinner-McDavid-Hyman
Holloway-Draisaitl-Arvidsson
RNH-Henrique-Brown.

But yes, it's also possible that we see Skinner start on a line with Drai, if RNH sticks with 97.

Now if/when Evander Kane comes back, things will get real interesting on how the lines are constructed

I think given Hyman’s chemistry with McDavid, putting a finisher like Skinner with Draisaitl makes more sense.

Might be jumping the gun there. He looked really bad the last half of this past year. Idk if he was injured, disinterested, or just lost a step due to age. But I wouldn't just assume he'll turn it on and play on the Oilers top line. He was really too slow to play with Tage Thompson and Tuch, so idk how he'll keep up with McDavid.
