there was rumor floating around the pens board that the pens were trying to move petry at the draft tonight

Still a decent defender, probably overpaid by about a mil for what he brings, was solid for the pens last year as a number 3.

31pts in 61 games.
Paid 6.25 mil this year and next.
Ann Arbor boy on the wrong side of 35.

would he be of interest to Detroit and if so what would they offer at full price or with a 1 mil retained?

If the Penguins take back money for him, I think they could get a decent return. Something like a 2nd and a prospect.

But as just shown by the Reilly Smith trade, they're not getting much back for Petry if they're just trying to shed his money. I think Petry for like a 4th is about what he'd go for, maybe even less than that.

No chance. Detroit already has a decent group of D and has no interest in signing a washed up 35 year old with two more years of term at a 6/3 million cap hit.

I don't think SY considers adding him to the roster for free, let alone in a trade.

Lol Petry would be Detroit's 2nd best defenseman. Seider is the only guy better than him.

I have been making that deal for Detroit's second. Wings have cap room and Petry is a home town boy who would love to be back there. Two years would fit the wings as a second pairing RD man to help the younger RD. Wings need to get back in the hunt and they have been rebuilding and now have a chance to compete for the playoffs with adding seasoned players to make that transition. Have you wings people seen what is out there as to RD?

You are aware of how a trade negotiation works, right?

The Penguins aren't paying to get out of Petry's deal. If Detroit won't take him without the Penguins paying assets, that just means a trade won't happen.
You're aware this is a public messaging board and not a NHL GMs conference room, right?

Keep him. He has negative value to Detroit. Period. End of story.,

And after he was dealt from MTL to PIT, DET fans thought they'd heard the last about him...
I felt an irrational rage when I saw this thread because DET fans are sick and tired of people trying to feed us Jeff Petry on bad trades.

Walman, Maatta, Seider, and Edvinsson are all better d-men than Jeff Petry right now.

Edit: Wallinder probably is too.

If Petry doesn't come with #14 I'm not even considering it.

Lmfao the mainboards are hilarious

Is this just pent up rage from dealing with Habs fans a year ago, or are these hilariously bad opinions on Petry genuine?

If he comes with #14, as a Habs fan I take him back even if he doesn't want to be here and we don't really have room.

I'm sure many other teams might take him with that kind of sweetener.

He's 35, making $6.25M for two more years, and bad. If you want him off the roster it will cost you #14 at the minimum.

Calling him "bad" is demonstrably false.

What is your argument for him being bad? He's a half PPG defenseman that eats huge minutes, plays physically and has decent on-ice results. What makes him bad?

Frankly the Penguins shouldn't be looking to move him, the only reason they might is because the team is old as dirt. Petry isn't a problem on the team.

I suspect Petry's best destination might be San Jose if Karlsson is moved.

Petry is far from bad. The idea that guys like Maata are better than him is laughable.
The only reason the Pens move Petry is because they are okay taking a step back defensively to get younger and get some assets in return.
Now, Petry not fitting what Detroit needs at this moment…. OK. But saying they have 4-5 defensemen better right now is just pure stupidity.
