Much like when Petry left Montreal, it'll be a contract for a contract... I expect Pittsburg to get a lesser, younger player on a somewhat similar deal.

there was rumor floating around the pens board that the pens were trying to move petry at the draft tonight

Still a decent defender, probably overpaid by about a mil for what he brings, was solid for the pens last year as a number 3.

31pts in 61 games.
Paid 6.25 mil this year and next.
Ann Arbor boy on the wrong side of 35.

would he be of interest to Detroit and if so what would they offer at full price or with a 1 mil retained?

Couldn't want him any less. We have 2 vet D in our top 6, we don't need more. We are rebuilding. Also, he has a terrible contract.

Nothing because Petry doesn't have a negative value contract.

Than keep him.

I felt an irrational rage when I saw this thread because DET fans are sick and tired of people trying to feed us Jeff Petry on bad trades.

Walman, Maatta, Seider, and Edvinsson are all better d-men than Jeff Petry right now.

Edit: Wallinder probably is too.
Present day Maatta and Edvinsson are not on Petry's level. Get a grip dude. Walman and Seider sure.

Moving Petry doesn't make any sense for the Pens. We'd have to fill his spot with someone else and we have enough tasks to deal with before UFA (Finding a goalie, completely re-doing our bottom 6, potentially getting a new 1LD). Moving out Petry, who has been solid for us and eats up big mins at top-4 RD, is priority number 100 for us right now.

I think we'd all be better off just moving forward and closing thread.

Than keep him.
Gladly.

Pitt would be extremely lucky to get “future considerations” for Petry.

He’s very much negative value at his AAV. Pitt fans will whine otherwise, but they are wrong. Petry has no trade market at his AAV. Will demand retention or a sweetener.

Tell me you haven’t watched Petry play without telling me you haven’t watched Petry play. 🙄.

Most Pens fans will tell you they really don’t want to move Petry…. And if we do move Petry it’s more because our best prospects that could be positive contributors happen to play defense. Now Granlund… yeah, that’s negative value…. Unfortunately we just don’t have young forwards that can step in a spot. So buy default we would move Petry, because he still has value, in order to fill holes elsewhere.

Lost all respect for this turd when he quit on the Habs during the pandemic. Full on quit, he was not into it at all. Also disappears in the playoffs.

Detroit does need more scoring from the backend, and a RH Dman. Put that together, and it’s almost a certainty with their cap space available, they probably sign Klingberg. Think they try that this weekend before trading for someone.

He was a 1/2 ppg Dman, that played a lot of the hardest minutes every night (22-1/2 per night) and was a plus player doing so.

Just curious, how many games did you actually WATCH him play. I don’t want to see some nerd chart that really doesn’t mean crap…. I want to know how many games you actually watched him play to determine his value?

Weird that people think the Pens would want to dump a solid top 4 D who is only slightly overpaid. He has value.

Red Wings fans were saying in one of the Karlsson threads that the team needed an RD.
Perusing Capfriendly shows that this is the case.
While there are other players who might be better fits for the team, the notion that the Red Wings don't need Petry at all is an objectively incorrect one.

Certainly don't need him at $6.5M for 2 years to be at best our #4.

The Penguins are literally trying to win now while their core has years left. Why then would they want to move this amazing dman? Doesn't make sense unless they know he is a cap dump going forward

The rumor was that the goal is to lower the average age of the team a bit, and since Petry has value, moving him would be the easiest way of achieving that.

Contract, cap hit, term, age, quality... you know the same reasons you guys are trying to get rid of him are the same reasons another team doesn't want him. Not that hard to figure out.

Jake Walman (sp) isn't 36 years old with a cap hit of over 6 million dollars and constantly getting worse. You can also disagree without insulting an entire fanbase or "spewing stupid shit". Still isn't hard to figure out why it's not a fit.

Wings fans can simply say "I'm not interested in Petry, no thanks" without continuously spewing stupid shit, you know.

The idea that Jake Wallman is better than Petry is so laughably dumb that it really invalidates any sort of opinions you might have on anything hockey related. Let alone someone like Maatta, who Penguins fans have 100% seen more than Wings fans have.

It seems like they're trying to get younger on D with bringing in Hanifin and they don't have the cap space for both Hanifin and Petry. That seems to be the only reason why they'd want to move Petry.

In the end, they probably get outbid for Hanifin and just end up keeping Petry.
Both the eye test and analytics back up that Walman is better.

If Petry isn't washed or overpaid. Keep him. That simple. Stop firing up threads trying to pawn him off on the Wings. That ship sailed more than 8 years ago.
