Yzerman baby, what are you doin. It will look even worse next year when they have to pay Mo an actual salary.

I don't know if it's just a tough market to sign UFAs or what but that's tough sledding.

Not uncommon with non-elite players in their mid 30s lol.

Yea, there’s only 8 defensemen who have played so far this year that are older than him, and of those only Letang and Burns are still playing at a high level. It’s not that surprising a nearly 36 year old Petry would be a bottom pairing guy by now

Say Mo signs for $9.5M/year tomorrow. Next year they'd be running with three of their top 4 making a combined whopping $13.8M for an average of $4.6M among those three.

Think they'll be just fine.

Holl isn't great, but also isn't nearly as bad as was advertised.

Granted... 2 game sample.

He and Chiarot both solid buyout candidates.

They may wait a year on Chiarot, though.
Holl is fine when he keeps it simple.

Problem with Holl is he gets fired up and thinks it’s in his skill set to go end-to-end, bar down, on any goalie of his choosing.

All jokes aside, he’s a decent bottom 6 guy who can play up the lineup on spot duty in a pinch.

I don't understand the creation of this thread or many of the comments in it.

The Wings acquired a depth defenseman when they already had 6 established defenseman on the roster + kids knocking on the door. Said depth defenseman is not critical to the day to day success of the team. Said depth defenseman doesn't cause the slightest of cap issues.

Shouldve accepted the trade to San Jose instead of rejecting us, ya bum!!

You wouldve been loved, wouldve been 1D and 1PP but now we have to use Vlasic playing those positions thanks dude!

Nothing story. Detroit is just rotating guys at the 5-6-7 spot. I expect Chiarot will sit next.

So both Petry and Chiarot are not regulars?
Lalonde has gone on record to say that they have 7 legit NHL d-men of which the bottom 5 have not separated themselves from each other. I'm assuming by his comments and how he has already rotated Maata out once, that he will be doing the same with Petry and Chiarot. Holl is the new shiny and Gostisbhere needs his value to stay high for possible trade in March. Both will get the benefit of the doubt in terms of staying in the lineup, but Petry, Maata, and Chiarot will probably rotate until the pairings sure up or someone gets injured.

We call it a Monday on HFBoards
