Completely bizarre how much he has fallen off.
Holland is salivating right now...

Ghost also wont likely sit because he's a prime candidate for a 50% retention TDL move if Detroit is a seller come February. Is it to give Justin Holl a chance to suck out there for a couple games? They had too many RD
Seider (never sitting)
Ghost likely won't sit either as he plays the PP for them.
When they played NJ, I really liked his play.... Of course it might help that I was cheering for the Devils.
Holl isn't great, but also isn't nearly as bad as was advertised. He's been the worst of the 7 D in my opinion
Of the 4 famous "terrible" D I'd rank so far this season:
Holl
Chiarot
Ghost
Petry
This isn't surprising though, I imagine there will be rotation for all 5 of the bottom D at points until 2 get hurt and Edvinsson usurps a spot.
He and Chiarot both solid buyout candidates.he'll be pretty cheap to buy out in the offseason if they cant move him by then.
The bottom 4 consists of Holl, Maatta, Petry, Gostibehere and Chiarot... that is beyond terrible. I guess Holl and Maatta could make a "passable" 3rd pair but none of these players can play on the 2nd pair. Maybe they'll prove us wrong and be better as the season goes along but considering all these defensemen were players other fanbases couldn't wait to get rid of (ok maybe not Maatta)... these first 2 games have shown exactly why... and we are led to believe Edvinsson isn't better than any of these guys, lol.
On the flip side, the forwards are looking great.
I have no idea what Detroit is doing with their defense
Forwards finally starting to click, adding high end pieces. Goaltending is somewhat stable, with solid prospects in the pipeline - so naturally they should go and tether themselves for years to Justin Holl, Ben Chiarot, Olli Maata and Jeff Petry
They're lucky they stole Jake Walman or it would be Seider and the Bottom Pairing Bunch
Petry was a top pairing dman two years ago. The fact he's considered a bottom pairing dman now shows he's falling off hard year to year now.To be completely honest, Detroit has good depth as far as bottom pairing defense goes.
... The problem is they've got about 5 guys who are good bottom pairing D, Walman and Seider who are good top pairing D, and their only good Top 4 guy is in the AHL because he's waiver exempt.

Not uncommon with non-elite players in their mid 30s lol.Petry was a top pairing dman two years ago. The fact he's considered a bottom pairing dman now shows he's falling off hard year to year now.
Tether for years?I have no idea what Detroit is doing with their defense

Tether for years?
Petry and Maatta's contracts end next season. Holl and Chiarot's the season after that.

Yes - making their contracts all 2-3 years long
So... Uhh... Short term deals?
Think if I found you a microscopic scalpel, you could find some actual hairs to split?
They don't want to rush a bunch of rookies onto their defense, and then be forced to call up mediocre AHL d-men when there's injuries.I have no idea what Detroit is doing with their defense
