Not sure why there’s not a better market for Petry. We got nothing other than cap clearance which we already had but I’m sure it will be good use for 2025. Still disappointed

Always with the ad hominem.

I find this trade meh and don't really care, but the idea that people who disagree with you are "whiners" just goes to show that many people who defend the team are usually the toxic ones that decrease the quality of the board.
Ignore me if you think I decrease the quality of the board.

I still think we should have sent down Harris and keep Petry if this is the best offer. Harris-Mailloux as the top pair in the AHL would have been nice.

Sorry but 50% retained and a bum for a 40 point RH D man isn’t anything to be excited about. Great we cleared some cap space but zero anything else
Not all trades are supposed to be exciting. They got rid of Hoffman, got a dman to replace wideman or in case of injuries and got a goalie they’ll probably trade or keep in case Primeau get pick up on waivers. That’s nothing more and you shouldn’t have expected more.

So we ''lost'' Rem Pitlick, Mike Hoffman and 1,875 in cap space for two year in exchange for

a 2025 2nd
a 2025 4th
Nathan Legare
Casey DeSmith

That's incredible

In other words, it's like we got rid of Pitlick and Hoffman while retaining only 1,875M$ of his salary for a 2nd, a 4th, a backup and a AHL level guy. Incredible work.
Creative asset management, for sure.

Incredible? Wouldn't go that far. I'd reserve that for franchise defining trades, which this isn't.

I'm ok with the way it all turned out but it's not that much to write home about either in the end.

I like that the Habs got Gustav Lindstrom. 24y/o RHD with decent NHL experience. He's a good add here. 4th round pick is a little bit of gravy. I like this trade. Good return for Petry. Especially if he really wants to play in Detroit, as has been rumored. Solid. Should make the Habs a better team moving forward.
All the while getting rid of Hoff and Pitlick.
Making room for two bodies up front was very important............
And it's mid August, he is not done....

I don't know a ton about Lindstrom, but I'm getting the vibe from Detroit fans that he's pretty bad, and that his acquisition was the equivalent of receiving literally nothing.

I think this was more about doing a solid for Petry, where they didn't want to drag this out and hold out for the best return. So they were willing to get a lesser return to do this for Petry and his family. His kids are starting school in two weeks.

Moving Hoffman & Pitlick got us way more than I expected so perhaps there were some side handshakes between Hughes/Dubas/Petry to move him to hometown Detroit and this trade just reflects Hughes keeping his word.

I'm also curious about the true value of Gustav Lindstrom. He's a former 2nd, 24 years old, has 128 NHL games under his belt, decent size, and plays RD. He might have more value than most posters are giving him credit for based off his stats. I remember being surprised that Kulak got us a 2nd.

There's also a lot of value if we make this move now and can start the season without Price on longterm IR. That results in cap savings this year and next and has value that would have been lost had we waited.

Anyways nice to see Hughes active and creatively looking to make us better

Considering the first trade and then the flip of Petry. It's pretty amazing that we got any type of value back for Hoffman and Pitlick. That value being a 2nd, 4th a decent back up that can too be flipped and a fringe NHL RHD ; I'd say that's just Amazing.

Went Wughes strikes again.
Lindstrom will have a good long look at camp, he'll see this as a perfect occasion to be a regular in the NHL and SHOULD, bring his A game.
I mean, we essentially spread their cap hits across 2 seasons rather than one and got another cap dump in the process (until proven otherwise by dealing DeSmith) in exchange for lesser assets in a 3-way trade.

In essence, it's a more or less slightly upgraded result than what could have been achieved by buyout, depending on the final outcome. Amazing is a bit indulging and simplifying way to paint things.
