I guess picks no longer have any value unless they have names attached to them.getting a second and a 4th pick on cap they can’t use/don’t need to use elsewhere
Retention slots are the new 1st rounders. We gave away a Generational retention spot!1!!! /sI guess picks no longer have any value unless they have names attached to them.
Not outraged. Just a human error, bit of hubris. Paid the price and hopefully learned a lesson. No promises to players you can't be sure you can keep without penalizing the club.We still outraged?
Welcome to capitalism my socialist friends! Out f***ing standing front office! Finally, a front office that realizes what the NHL has become!Yeah at most you can get 1 million or so by player waived to the AHL if I'm not mistaken.
Even if you waive 2 players (ex: Armia, Allen), you get only 2 millions in cap relief.
Will need to move at least 1.7 million out and then waive 2 players with over 1 million in salary I think to get to the -.3.77 remaining before the start of the season...
Then you get the 10.5 millions of Price on LTIR and Hughes is in the business of getting bad contracts with a year left.
That's why I said this deal in a vaccum was underwhelming but if you assess what Kent Hughes has done just with Petry, it's been pretty good. This deal was basically Kent Hughes thanking Petry for playing ball. The assets we wanted/didn't want was done in the three way trade. Sometimes it's good to not give out the image that your organization is a cold inhumane factory and treats your players like numbers. That's why I don't really care about the Petry deal. Because KH already got what he wantedMatheson deal was what a year ago? that doesn't enter into the picture now if you're assessing it wisely.
That's ridiculous and you should be ashamed of posting such stupidity. I examined what Kent Hughes was able to do with just one player and you bring up unrelated trades. He obviously was acting in good faith to Petry and his familySo the Sergachev for Drouin trade was actually ok, becausse if we just lump it together with the Danault trade and the original Weise trade, we were quite ahead?
It should have been. Pëtry's cap hit was fine, but it is a bad time of year to move guys oike that.I tried to tell you that you had Petry with too much trade value. If he had the value you think he had (even at 50% retention), the Pens would have been able to trade him in a separate trade before the Karlsson trade. I'm sure they tried bud.
Flat cap growth combined with the 15 team NTC. It was pretty obvious and I really don't think their plan was to have Petry start with the Habs.

This is the saddest highlight video I've ever seen.
We know for a fact that Montrel not on the NTC. It is 15 Western teams.Do we know for sure that the promise came after Petry was acquired? What if the promise was made beforehand in order to convince Petry to waive his NMC to facilitate the deal? In that case it would have to be honoured and I would assume (hope) Hughes had good reason to believe that Petry could be flipped with retention...which he was.
He bought pick with his cap space and ditched bad contract. Cleared cap space in the short term as to not have price on summer LTIR and cleared the logjam at forward. What are we doing with the Cap space we save this year by dumping Hoffman for Petry at 50%? If nothing, WTF did we clear Hoffman’s contract by taking on a $2.3M Cap hit next year?
With Cap space the most valuable asset in the league, Hughes turned a winning trade into a loss with this move.
To give the appearance of a negotiation. The 4th had to be conditional why? Lmao
If not, then it’s time to be outraged for not being outragedWe still outraged?
Also was reported Hughes was looking for a suitor for Petry 3-4 days prior to deal being announcedWe know for a fact that Montrel not on the NTC. It is 15 Western teams.
I am not a capologist, but others who know more than me about the subject (Montreal Canadiens Trade Jeff Petry to Detroit Red Wings to Clear Salary Cap Space) have noted:It did not free up cap space next year, and we don't need cap space this year.
If Petry wasn't willing to play in Montreal then he would have had Montreal on his NTC. 'Petry didn't want to be here so the return is lowered' sounds like hogwash to me.
I'd have played him if that's the best we could get.
There was no error. That is garbage. The oriiginal trade would have been a 4 team trade except for time constraints. There was never any intention to keep Petry and every intention to move him to Deroit. He didn't want to return anyway. And likely no expectation of getting much for him.Not outraged. Just a human error, bit of hubris. Paid the price and hopefully learned a lesson. No promises to players you can't be sure you can keep without penalizing the club.
Yzerman wasn't prepared to part with a pick that potentially could end up in the 98-105 range. To give the appearance of a negotiation.
I’m surprised Hughes didn’t get to include a couple of pages worth of contingencies.
