Campbell had excellent numbers against Vegas because of score effects.

Campbell was cooked from the second he put on an Oilers jersey. Keep in mind Skinner held Vegas to one goal against in two different games last playoffs. You know how many times Campbell held a playoff team to one goal or less last season? Zero.
Great 2 games but beyond horrible the other 4 isn’t a good thing. He needed a reset.

Which was great, but we have a much larger data set that showed he was one of the worst goalies in the NHL last season.
Campbell was one of the worst goalies in the regular season for sure but Skinner was the worst goalie in the playoffs. The roll of the dice worked against LA… maybe the hail Mary against Vegas connects too.

Anyways water under the bridge. I’m glad Skinner is dialed in this year and we have a less questionable backup.

Doesnt matter. In those playoffs against Vegas, Campbell did exaclty what was required. Skinner didn't. Woodcroft was scared to make a change.

I have no doubt Knob would have done that. How many changes in the roster did woodcroft even make last year? He stuck to his 11 7 for dear life and our forwards were gassed.

It's not mind boggling at all. Campbell is not an NHL goalie and the franchise 1000% views him this way.

That wasn't until they gave him a real shot at splitting the crease with Skinner at the start of this season.

He 1000% should have been given a shot in game 6 by "in perpetual search of the all-encompassing next solution" (or however his buzz phrase goes) Woody.

You're right, to start the year they were going to try him in the NHL again. He failed, so they, the organization, moved on from him to their benefit.

I dislike Campbell more than possibly almost everyone on this board and have been consistent in saying that his vaunted Game 4 against LA that he "stole" is trumped up way beyond what it was, but having said that even I would have started him in Game 6.

Just like I would have split McDavid and Drai before the series started, just like I would have gotten Drai out of the Eichel matchup, just like I would have gotten Yamamoto out of the top 6, etc, etc. Woodcroft just would not make the simple adjustments that were staring him in the face.

To be fair to Woodcroft, he didn't have a Pickard to turn to like Knoblauch did. Campbell was quite possibly the worst goalie in the entire league last season and only made it 5 games this year before being banished to the AHL forever. He was never an option to start a playoff game.
He had better numbers than Skinner when sent down.

Disagree. First, Campbell didn’t play against Vegas. 2nd- score effects has nothing to do with Campbell’s numbers- take a look at his high danger save%. Campbell also has a career .920 save %- so his performance was not an outlier.

Maybe Campbell, like Kulak, ups his game for the playoffs. Who knows- but his playoff numbers are good

I'm the furthest thing from a Campbell fan, I said from day 1 worst contract signing we will make and I think I was spot on. BUT the way done was playing and how Campbell looked there is no reason why Campbell doesn't get 1 start even if on the shortest leash. Never happened, but it exposed woodys stubbornness and was litterally the beginning of the end for him. 🤷

He doesn't get any starts because the team decided he was not an NHL goalie and they couldn't just "wait" for him to figure it out.

The Boon for the Oilers was Pickard being a solid back up all season. When you really think about it, it's not an "easy" call to just bury your $5M a year former big UFA signing in year 2 of 5, but they did what they had to and the team is better for it.

I'm talking about last years playoffs and only the playoffs

If Knoblauch were coaching then, Campbell would have probably got some starts. Or maybe Knoblauch decided to play Pickard over Skinner for a couple games based on what happened last year

Campbell has excellent playoff numbers Vs Vegas and stole us a rare overtime win.

Skinner was cooked. It didn't hurt to try Campbell.
Exactly. I'm about as harsh a Campbell critic there is. However the reality is Campbell did exactly what was asked of him in the playoffs last year and skinner did not.

Woodcroft as the coach had to adjust and stubbornly refused. This is a reason why half a dozen teams have passed on him this year.

I'm talking about this year, because last year and last year's playoffs have been utter erased in the best possible way so far.
Yeah I was only talking last years playoffs, cuz Campbell will never play another game for the Oilers

Valid point

I think it’s closer to 1100%.

Woody might have been trying to figure out how to make zone defence work until the end of the year. Not sure compilations of individual mistakes being given to players, while they were set up for failure trying to execute a bad system, would have ever worked out.

Jackson forcing this move saved the season. Now can be get a good GM. Hope so.
