What happened to the Flyers' defense?

Jarry looking like Jarry and Malkin looking like Malkin makes worlds of difference

Kapanen and Tanev on the same line looks fun to defend

McCann was buzzing

If Ceci and Matheson are good does that make Florida, Toronto, and Ottawa... bad?

Friedman looked decent

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Malkin
+++++++++ Kapanen
+++++++++ Rust
+++++++++ Guentzel
+++++++++ Jarry

This has to be added, so I'll do it here. Notwithstanding a couple of dogs in the bottom 6, the work the Pens did with and without the puck, in terms of their structure and support, was in a different constellation tonight. It wasn't perfect. It will never be perfect. But, this was so much like last year when Sid was out in terms of how they'd gut out wins against teams that were better than them.

Winning in regulation against the Flyers

Jarry

Is this some of the best defense weve seen in years as a team. We did give up chances but overall they all looked solid , I mean so many guys are stepping up and joing the play in a good way and creating offense. Taking some of the pressue off the offense.

Kap had a really nice game with a ton a chances at the hatty. He will be a big part of our success moving foward no matter where he finds a place.

At least everyone shooting down our GMR fandom can shut the **** up now.
They really weren’t that good. No better than a lot of the games they played with Crosby at least. Jarry and the 2nd line is what won that game.

Malkin looked like Malkin because he's at that point in his career where he needs the right help to have that kind of impact. You set him up to succeed like you set up Sid to succeed, and lo and behold . . .

Jarry looked like Jarry because they played in front of him like they played in front of him when Sid was out. Smart plays. Structure. Support. Doing their damndest to protect the house. Tying up sticks.

Almost like there's a lesson in this . . . you set up Malkin and Jarry to carry you, and they'll help to carry you.

Also, GIANT + for the Penalty Kill. It was a ton better than it has been all season. Flyers usually feast on the Pens on the powerplay and the first period after a couple of dumb penalties they held their own and allowed that to be the kills that gave them more confidence going forward in the game. Need more of that, this team loves to take dumb penalties, if the PK is like this, it makes it less painful.

Not a lot to add. This game was everything Sullivan doesn't want to accept. We started anemic, like we have looked most of the year and last playoffs when GMR was broken up to cater to Sid. Cry about that if you want, it happened and it hurt the team. We have two superstars, and despite a lot of people wanting to take Geno out back and put him down, he's still elite. It's time we had a coach that treats them as 1A and 1B and understands how important an elite Malkin is to the team. We look like the Penguins when he is near the top of his game. He wasn't even close to that tonight but we still played the best offensive game of the year.

The lineup just fits better with GMR. We have two holes, on the first line and the fourth. Three if Zucker is out long term. The third line should have Kapanen on it, not ZAR. ZAR is ok but belongs on the fourth line. He doesn't bring offense and that can't be out third line. But Sullivan won't do it because he is biased.

Sullivan is going to tank this team this year just like he did last year.

Might have helped that their worst PKing forward, Lafferty, couldn't be used for some reason.
