Pretty ridiculous that some here act like a bounce back season is not within the realm of possibility for him He did follow a tremendously grueling playoffs with hip surgery and missing most of training camp. Not saying it's a sure thing but for 800k it's a good gamble for the Rangers, virtually no risk.

That being said, for 800k it's not a bad signing, but boy does it go to show just how overpaid Stoll was, that contract after the 2012 season he had was just horrendous.

Tough to say what he would've gotten after 2012 had he left. $800k today, at 33, after a career low faceoff%, a few more injuries, and the drug stuff, is a little different than $3+ million back then. Not saying the Kings got enough from Stoll specifically, for that amount of money, but, different context.

800k is nothing for the potential upside there

yeah he was a bad value at 3m, but 1 year at 800k for a guy with two rings who could bounce back and be a decent shutdown guy on that bottom six? no brainer for NYR

He is not reliable. NYR overpaid $800,000 IMO.

The $800K will totally be worth it once he injures a key player in the playoffs.

His play has fallen off a cliff but he will still rmap up the hitting come playoff time. That price tag is miniscule for the "risk".

DL would have brought him back for that amount if not for the arrest; of course, he doesn't go for so low if not for the arrest so I guess it is a moot point.

Good luck to him. Hope he can have personal success but, ultimately, no team success seeing as he is on the Rangers.

I'll miss the guy. 7 years is a long time to be a King.

So that's two players we're going to have some extended TV timeout time for when they come to play in LA with their new clubs.

Stoll is 20th all time in games played by a king (not sure if that includes playoffs). Didn't think he was that high up.

Ranger fan here. What can I expect from jarret stoll? How much is left in the tank and has he played Wing at all or Just C? Gotta imagine down the middle it'll be
Brassard
Stepan
Stoll
D Moore

Expect a lot of bad ill timed penalties

I hope for the Rangers' sake he can rewind the clock about three years. We've been making excuses for him since 2012-13, but the truth is, he doesn't bring a lot to the table if he isn't playing defense. He was mostly used to kill penalties and win timely draws, but he hasn't even really done that too well since the first cup win (which he was a big part of, credit where it is due). He flew pretty far under the radar because of how far Richards had fallen, but there were a number of occasions last season where I wish he was just contributing nothing. Instead, he was coughing up pucks and taking bad offensive-zone penalties.

Stoll is supposed to be leader and role model in the locker room, but the drug thing nixed that. He is supposed to be great at faceoffs, but had a career low last season. He's supposed to be great on defense, but the Kings had to resort to using other players on the penalty kill.

If Stoll can bounce back, I think he can still be a mid-range 3C, but he's going to need to work his ass off to achieve that.

Our official LAKingsInsider did a player evaluation of Jarret Stoll.

He had a very bad year this past season, which the evaluation covers, but Jon Rosen ends with

Despite a challenging season, there’s still a great deal Stoll can offer as a role player, defensive specialist and unifying team presence.
