I would take Stoll back on a cheap one year deal. He'd be a fine 4th line center. Make Shore/Weal beat him out for the spot.

That said, there's probably another team out there willing to give him a better deal.

It's going to be hard to bring back a UFA who was not only busted with drugs, but busted bringing those drugs to a party where other teammates were at.

It's hard enough bringing back Voynov, but he has a contract and his trade value is in the toilet, so there's a reason from the team and trade value perspective. For Stoll, it's best to just walk away from this distraction for him and the team.

I don't know how anyone who watched Stoll last season could suggest bringing him back. What a terrible idea. Did you not pay attention to how much his play brought those around him down to his level? He was absolutely useless.

He was about as useful as Colin Fraser was in 2013-14.

But I do think PJ Kings Hockey has added a helpful reminder that Stoll was a good guy and a good teammate in many ways, for many years. Yes, he could be a sneaky, dirty ******* on the ice, but he was OUR sneaky, dirty *******. Yes, he sucked last year, but every player has an expiration date - last year just happened to be his. Yes, he did drugs, but, well, we've already had the drug debate here.

When summarizing a guy's run with the team, it's helpful to look beyond a disappointing last year and give him his due.

(But don't bring him back.) :help:

stoll is not coming back, he was the first one found out to have undermined the team with his actions, DL was loyal to him even when he was suxing it up on the ice and he betrayed that it would be very unlike DL

Just the way I like 'em.

I'm sad that things ended the way they did with Stoll. In all likelihood, his career is over as well. He played so poorly last year on both sides of the puck and just couldn't turn it on. Stoll was a great guy and a good player for a long time here. He posted three straight seasons of 40+ points from '09-'11. He was the perfect third-line center for a while.

We'll miss you, but we don't want you back.

that faceoff win before Richards goal in wcf 2013 game 5 :yo: one wishes he left on better terms. Love you Stollie.

I was happy to see him get another shot. I could see him bouncing back to 30ish points in the east with a over 50% fo rate. I appreciated what he did for the Kings helping us to develop into a cup winner. Good luck in nyr except of course the kings

It's not a bad signing when you're talking $800k. The over $3 million he was making last year, that's not getting enough bang for the buck.

If Stoll is winning faceoffs at a 51% clip (or 55-56% like in previous years) that alone is worth $800,000.

I bet the first conversation with Stoll and the Rangers staff will go like this...

U want me to take penalty in 3rd with less than too minutes left wen we trail da gamez by one goals, cooch?!? Dat my specality in LaLay. Offensive zone penalty two...da bestest kind!

Seeing far too much of - "This guy is a two-time Stanley Cup champion."

Living in the past gets you nowhere.

Well that has been justification to keep and overpay many players on this roster in recent years.

If you are a good player with Stanley Cup rings, someone like Willie Mitchell or Justin Williams then fine, it is a nice bonus to what you contribute on the ice.

If you are Jarret Stoll or Mike Richards it doesn't matter, no one cares whether you were on a good team a couple of years ago if you are awful on the ice. That being said, for 800k it's not a bad signing, but boy does it go to show just how overpaid Stoll was, that contract after the 2012 season he had was just horrendous.

$800K for Stoll = why not.
Could be a great bargain, at worst get burried in the minors as he makes less than $900K.
Why wouldn't the rangers be ecstatic about this deal.
