big fan here of Phillips, thinking coming back to New England area will do him well. he went to eaglebrook school in Deerfield mas at 13 years old and then at lawrence academy in Groton mass(that's where I first saw him) for his sophomore year.
If he figures it out, you guys got a real player here, right hand centerman, 6'1, 195lbs with skill and high hockey IQ are hard to find.

This is kinda neat, this kid can play.

We got Zach Phillips, right? Did another player come with him I don't know about?

Drafted higher than knight, younger than knight, and more productive in pro and junior than knight. I know, I know, "ice time! Cassidy! Mystical creatures!" But I would say that Phillips is a good return considering the former, even if he never turns into an NHL player (likely). I liked the point you made about him being a top 6 or bust whereas if knight turns it around could make an impact on the 3rd or 4th line. That was the best point I've seen on how this trade favors Minnesota (still firmly believe bruins won it however) in all likelihood 2 years from now this will be viewed as the sauve for flick deal (meaningless) but I think Phillips has a higher ceiling than knight does, so why not roll the dice and hope he can compensate for his below average skating with IQ (supposedly a strength)

If we gave Robins a chance no reason not to have given knight a chance. He was a pretty sure bet for a 4th liner, instead we trade for a probable bust. A skill kid who can hardly surpass 30 points in the AHL? I take Knight any day.

For me, the key is the motor and the work ethic. From everything I have read, Phillips has enough skill, but not enough desire. That's a killer IMO. The best thing the B's can hope for is that the trade wakes Phillips up, ala Seguin (not comparing the two) and that he realizes he has not been working hard enough.

I'm going all in on Phillips- he's my new Sobotka/Knight. This place is no fun without a player to obsess.

Phillips needs to get top 6 and first powe play in Providence

Was a fan coming out so let's get him up here for a look

Cassidy screwed himself- he may not realize it yet but he will.

There is more than your typical trade interest in Boston organization.

I hope they both do very well- excited to see Phillips and stop being pissed over Knight - Cassidy relationship.

Jared I expect will be playing for the Wild sooner rather than later - amazing he is with Nino after what went down

Probably see Phillips next weekend play live but will watch AHL live

Both players producing with their new teams.

Knight had an assist Friday and a wrap around goal last night waived off on a quick whistle.

Phillips with two PP assists in two games.

Hopefully this is one of those rare cases where a change of scenery trade works out for both parties.

Going to watch Iowa game later on - checked out some of it already. Watched their other game and style of play different- Wild does more stretch plays and up tempo (unless you are Koko or Griffith:laugh: who play the Wild system now)

Went and read my RL Draft Guide and I was clearly Jonesing for Phillips. It's exciting to get a kid like this so young here- total puppy placement deal between these two franchises.

This Zack Phillips trade could be a steal. Phillips is an offensive minded player with slow feet. It reminds me of John Taveres when he was first drafted. Now I'm not saying Phillips is going to be the next Taveres, but it's up to Phillips if he wants to be a quality player.

The one thing that Taveres is known for is that he is a hard worker that improved his skating. Taveres is work-out machine during the off-season. I remember watching a commercial with Taveres doing a crazy @$$ work-out with the Bruins' own Max Talbot. I don't know if Taveres hired Gary Roberts as his conditioning coach, but Phillips should look to enlist Roberts to improve his overall strength. You can see Gary Roberts in a Canadian Sport Check ad putting Steve Stamkos through his routine. Once Phillips improves his strength, his work ethic improves, his skating improves and his Hockey ability improves.

If you told me that the Bruins would gain 3 of the first rounders(Hamilton, Morrow and Phillips) in the 2011 draft, I'd say you were nuts. This Phillips trade could redeem Chiarelli as a draft selector.

I wonder how involved Keith Gretzky (and/or new drafting staff) have been involved in this/Connelly trade(s)? Assuming they have been, this could be a good indication to know sooner than later if these new guys know their stuff in terms of who to go after?

Isn't Gretzky head of amateur scouting? Does he do pro scouting too? Just askin'.

certainly 'could' one of the best words in the English dictionary....renewed my Providence season tickets and cant wait to see what Phillips brings to the table- he's going to get a great opportunity and 'should' one of the best words in the....oh, you get it;)

I think JFJ does this, and Bradley spends a lot of time on follow ups from his days of extensivity (is that a word?) following amateurs.

Gretzky plate is full with amateurs but Dom if you see this weigh in

the motor/desire may be an issue but really what is motor and desire? it is mindset and is something that can go on at any time; havent seen Phillips yet and even when I do I need a handful of games before I go all experty/know-it-all stand:nod:

I'm sure Gretzky as an amateur scouting director is asked about his assessment of pro players back when they were amateurs and that goes into the decision. No rescouting, just opening up the 2010 draft notebook and 2011 draft binder and giving the notes to Peter for more insight

I don't necessarily buy this. I know you are an expert in those areas, but from my life experience, people are usually wired one way or another, and either have it or do not. There are times when people change, but I have seen it rarely.

I hope Phillips works out, but even if he does, I am not sure how this redeems Chia as a "draft selector"? If he's like most GM's (smart ones anyway), he gets advice and input from the experts in the area (scouts and personnel) and lets them do their thing.

When you do post impressions. I have seen very limited feedback on the kid thus far. So far so good it sounds like.

Wouldn't Gretz have seen him during his draft year while with the Yotes?

It certainly is JFJ and Bradley's job, but I'm sure Gretz had some input. Connolly isn't that far removed from his draft year

I have my list of go to guys for knowledge and you are high on it- you are the one standing around OHL rinks kabitzing all things (ok most things ;) ) hockey. Gretzky I would say yes.

Btw I know you told me some stuff on Danton Heinen the Bruins mercurial 4th round pick. Was this Gretzky or that area scout. Someone has to be feeling good about where this is in time.

When Knight is a regular on the Wild and Phillips is contributing to the Boston Bruins everyone will be happy (I think). ;)

I like that Phillips has next year also on his rookie contract so he can know the organization well enough when camp comes. I hope he is at DC in July. He's played around here and knows what a rotary is and how we talk so should feel very comfortable driving the mean streets of Wilmington next summer and Fall.

Excellent change of scenery deal

Both guys have 10% chance to ever make it even to 100 NHL games. 50% they don't even see 1 NHL game. Both will reach the AHL development level games limit in 1-2 seasons and off to DEL they go.
