That said, they can't just go against what's in the rulebook on a whim and award the Russians a goal as you suggested.

Of course you can, it just takes balls to know when a rule should be ignored. If the ref had called it a goal and rewound the clock, he would have been congratulated for his insight and courage, not censured.

It's beginning to look like it will all be moot, but of course we'll never know what effect a 2-1 goal would have had, rather than the "Oh, by the way, you scored but we didn't count it" telegram we phoned down to the ref to deliver.

I like how he was holding his EAR at the bench even though the stick clipped the top of his helmet.

Pierre is right (for once), it was all kinds of embelleshment, and that is something the Russians are known for.

However, it was still high sticking, and still should have been called a minor penalty against Canada.

Though in truth, it should have been 4 on 4.

Could be that when the helmet was pushed the protective padding may have cut his ear or something like that...

Poise and intelligence are missing from the foundation upon which this Russian team is built. Idiotic penalties , piss poor effort and lots of quit. A team that has not faced adversity and have no idea how to react. Sad.
