Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

Unless he loves Carolina, I donā€™t see why Mikko would re-sign with them without at least testing free agency. Money appears to be Mikkoā€™s priority and Carolina has a reputation for not being huge spenders.

With that being the case, heā€™s almost certainly going to get higher offers in FA and thereā€™s no reason for him to rush to sign.

Apparently the facilities are kinda bad there(rated one of the worst in the league )and the city is boring.

Mikko will pass. Especially after this bad start. If he doesn't get going soon, no way he stays imo.

What will they have to show for Necas, Drury, and two draft picks? Two months worth of Rantanen and a futures package in a year they're supposed to compete for a cup?

That's a fireable offense.
I am not so sure they couldn't salvage it to some degree. If they retain another 50% on Rantanen to $2.3M, even less for deadline cap almost every contender could fit that in. Even as a pure rental they could get a 1st + + or up to 2 2sts from a team going for it all looking to make a splash as Mikko level players dont usually come available often even as a rental.

This is not the only reporter bringing this up.

What happens with Rantanen remains to be seen. Important context however, Necas was 95% getting traded this offseason the latest by Carolina. So for them he was almost like an own rental anyway. So they could've received a futures package in the worst case anyway.

I still think it's a nothing burger - just other people jumping on the 'story' for clicks.

It will be an interesting story to follow if he's not signed by the deadline, but I have a hard time believing the Canes are going to flip him. They got him to get over the hump in the playoffs, and will likely throw a bag at him before July 1 to save face. Whether or not he accepts it is the bigger question.

It's kind of funny seeing Tulksy get a lot of praise but finally the Canes make a big swing and it could really blow up in their face. People were applauding him for not giving up a 1st rounder in either the Guentzel or Rants deal but forget that they gave up a top 10 league scorer instead.

I know there were different cap implications this year but FWIW I thought Guentzel was a better fit for them and a bigger fumble, considering the cap savings between him and Rants. Who knows though, maybe there was no way he was signing there either.

I wish I could both Love and Laugh at this post. We need the ability to show more than one emotion.

I also wish I wasn't wanting to see Mikko fail, but I've found myself wanting that a lot lately. I should be a better person. I want to be a better person. But I really want to see him signing for something much closer to 10M than 13M.

That's because he got fat, and while having got fat was seeking more money. Cigarettes are expensive..

Mmmmm, yeah it's ok to feel betrayed by that.

The trade grades were like

Canes A
Avs B-
Hawks C

That is aging like milk

Is Jack Drury the quickest acquisition to gain full trust and confidence from Bednar?

Obviously a star like Marty Necas jumps in and delivers right away, but usually a role player takes more time.

I go back to the Flyers game where Drury was sitting on the bench, one leg over the boards, staring intently at Bednar as the refs were checking to see whether the faceoff would be in our zone or outside the zone. As soon as it was confirmed as being in our zone, Bednar gave him the nod and he hopped over. Colton and Wood weren't even looking at Bednar and jumped up to get on when they saw Drury go.

Drury seems to be an extremely high IQ, coach's player type guy.

With almost no practice time after the trade, as we were on the road and had travel days, he immediately gained Bednar's full trust. Really impressive.
Those two stupid f***s set the bar so goddamn f***ing low that paying attention to the coach and what's happening on the ice is considered high IQ?

I am not saying you're wrong. And Drury does seem like a very good pickup. But holy shit why are Wood and Colton on the team?

Maybe we shouldn't blame them for not being as aware of the game situation. Since they're using their collective brain power to remember to breath.

No it hasn't lol. By this point in the Mitts trade we had thought we'd fleeced the Sabres and half a season later everyone wants Mitts gone. Saying that the trades aging like milk for the Canes is insanely short sighted at this point in time.

You shush, one of these players has about as much compete as a wet noodle. The other has been one of the fastest players in the NHL for years and is playing with MacKinnon.

Meanwhile Mikko has to deal with Rod.

There is a world where the trade is an A for both teams though too.

B- is offensive already lol.
