If Chicago had anything at all on the line, they'd boot both Korchinski and Nazar out of the door without hesitation to get rid of Jones' deal. It is also entirely possible that the offer would be turned down by the other team. But right now, what would be the point in doing that? Do they need to open up space for Cole Guttman?

Seguin and Benn might nix any possible trades themselves, but even if they wanted to get traded, there probably isn't market for either player. Too much, too long, too old.

You would be absolutely as far off base as the OP's ridiculous trade proposal.

Chicago is going into Year-2 of a complete tear down rebuild. They will not be trading two of their top prospects for any reason. They also have no interest in acquiring Benn or Seguin as the Hawks will not be in a position to be a competitive playoff team for several years so they don't need them.

The Hawks also have more salary cap space than any other team in the league and will continue to have lots of cap room until Bedard needs his post-ELC mega deal starting in 2026/27. The plan is to use cap space to take on cap dumps for draft picks or high end prospects. In other words there is no hurry at all to trade Jones nd in fact he will be a good steadying influence for all the d-prospects they will have coming up over the next few seasons - including Korchinski probably in 2024/25 or 2025/26.

As with most HF trade proposals - it usually focuses on one team to the exclusion of the other.

There is only one reason why the Hawks would acquire Benn or Seguin and that would in effect be as a cap dump that provides them a high draft pick or a high end prospect. That's not to say Benn and Seguin are cap dumps - because they still have value - but they don't have value for the Hawks at this time in their rebuild for anything other than the draft pick or prospect it nets them. They're not going to be a Cup contender next season or the next few seasons so what's the point of acquiring a couple guys over 30 making over $9M - there is none except if it nets them a Wyatt Johnson or something similar.

The level of garbage in this thread is astounding.

Why would the Hawks want to isolate Bedard? It's already hard enough coming into the league at 18/19 years old.
Because Hawks prefer to embarrassingly ice a team full of AHL tweeners.

So the Hawks should blow up their rebuild to give Bedard a safe space? Lots of cheaper option if you want to protect CB. Is there a need to get Bedard 100 Pts next year?
I think there is a huge need if you want him to stay in the organization long term.

I think there is a huge need if you want him to stay in the organization long term.

First, your premise is misguided or misinformed. The Hawks have him for 3 ELC years and then another 6 or 7 years of RFA control. A lot can and will happen in the next 10 years.

Another premise is more of the red herring variety in that you suggest that if they don't sign guys like Benn and Seguin - it will be like Bedard going one on five with no possibility of success. I could call to mind that it was almost that way for him playing with a very undermanned team in Regina and he did pretty well. But aside from that - the Hawks will have good players around him even if they aren't at the Benn and Seguin level.

There are a lot of fan bases that either do or should feel embarrassed by what their management team did wrong or haven't done right. Certainly Hawks fans have been there over the bunch of years. However, fielding a team of AHL tweeners for the purpose of rebuilding from the ground up isn't one of those embarrassing times - it's a necessary part of the rebuild plan and many Hawks fans, myself included, understand the strategy and are bought in.

The Hawks may not blatantly "Tank" this year but I don't think they will be constructing their lineup to win either with the objective to be in the running for another top-5 draft pick. So I'm sure it will look embarrassing to those who aren't bought into the rebuild plan - so be it.

I feel like these 2 would be the absolute 2 perfect people to insulate Bedard on that top line. Obviously they have no reason to waive but let’s say they do because they get to go to a team that actually wants them and the idea of playing in a major hockey market and isolating Bedard excites them.

What would the Stars be willing to add to these 2 to open up almost 20 million in cap space? Wyatt Johnson? This could almost guarantee Mathews as a star in 2024-2025
Uhhhh ...

Would be a nice TANK move.

Dallas would become a power-house, after unloading this dead weight.
They’d need to use the cap to
Bring in Mathews and P Kane but if they did I agree.

Would a 3 way trade of

Chicago- Benn, Seguin, Suter and Wyatt Johnson

Dallas- Austin Mathews and Nylander

Toronto- ??????

What a massive failure this is. Dallas does not need matthews. They need defense. The only thing that would make sense is some form of Jones for Sequin that does not include Wyatt.

Seth Jones is making $9.5 mil per season, for the next seven years.

Seguin's at $9.85, for the next four.

Honestly if it's one or the other I'd rather just hang on to Seguin.

So you’d take 9.85 mil for a 2C over 9.5 for 7 years for a top 2 D. I think that’s crazy as a team competing. Jones for Seguin short term makes Dallas far better. Hieskanen and Jones would be unreal.

Seguin, Suter and Logan Stankoven for Jones.

If you're bringing in a 1st overall generational talent and want to instill within him the kind of character and atmosphere you need, the last guys you'd want in the room is Benn and Seguin.

Neither contract is ideal but my point is that Dallas gets out from under the Seguin deal a lot quicker.

Maybe under the right environment Seth Jones can finally emerge as a solid, dependable top pairing blueliner but that's not a risk I'm willing to take, frankly.

Seguin, Suter and Logan Stankoven for Jones.

.....Nope.

Not a chance Dallas moves Stankoven when he's this close to making the jump.....and definitely not as the third piece in any deal for a player like Seth Jones. :help:

You clearly missed the first part of the post "if Chicago had anything at all on the line". If they were competing right now, they'd have no problems whatsoever with that move, but they're not and they won't be for many more years.

You quoted the first part of your statement but omitted the second part of your statement (bolded above) which was the part I strongly disagreed with. I went on to explain that the Jones contract was not a problem for the Hawks because they are not in Cap trouble and won't be for the foreseeable future. Therefore they would not sacrifice two of their top prospects to take care of a problem that doesn't exist.

You explained the very thing that I also argued. Me saying that Chicago has nothing on the line is acknowledging what is in bold above (my bold). We don't disagree here.

No way in hell is Matthews going to Dallas.

Can’t wait till he re-signs so we can put an end to this nonsense.

My rebuttal to your statement "they'd boot both Korchinski and Nazar out of the door without hesitation to get rid of Jones' deal." goes farther than they won't "boot Korchinski and Nazar out the door" because they don't need to - my point is that they won't boot Korchinski and Nazar out the door under any circumstances because they are in the beginning phase of a rebuild and those two players are cornerstone pieces of the rebuild.

I think Jones playing on the Stars especially playing with Miro is worth the money.

What is Benn going to teach Bedard? How to land on players while "bracing for impact"?
