Right. None of you think Wiz is better than Johnson.

I also don't think many of you see Johnson as a top 20 defenseman in the league.

Dude stop. Just stop. You're further widening the gap between yourself and the sane folks on the board. And I for one am tired of hearing your crap.

Also, I don't have a lawyer.

I certainly don't think Wisniewski is our top defenseman, but I also don't believe that we have a "top defenseman" in the manner that's being mentioned (top-20). Wisniewski is a top OFFENSIVE defenseman ... that doesn't make him a top defenseman in the league. And I think that's the part of the argument that's being missed by one poster in particular. I won't point fingers or mention names.

I will add the footnote that I think Ryan Murray is going to be our top defenseman within the next 18 months, and may damn well be good enough to be compared to some guys in the top-20.

Ducks' fan here... How has Wisniewski been this year? I haven't followed him much since he left Anaheim.

Pretty good. For whatever reason he hasn't been as good with his shot, but the powerplay is top 5 and largely from his contributions. His defense comes and goes, but he's been very good in that department the past month or so. He's a good 4-5 dman.

My main concern is with Wisniewski's defensive play; his offensive capabilities have never been questioned.

I was toying around with the idea of the Ducks' trying to acquire him to play alongside Fowler. Admittedly, I have no idea if he'd even be available.

Everyone on this board would come up with a different number for Wiz. Last year I wouldn't have given him a number, his defence was so bad he was just an "offensive specialist". This year, #2/3.

Fair enough, but I am using overall body of work.

Probably not. We really use him alot and we're not rebuilding.

Underrated and unappreciated.

I love his contract more every season.

I agree. He was pretty bad to start the year, and his lack of offensive production didn't help. But for as much as JJ gets props for starting the culture change here, in my book Wiz does, too, and first.

No, absolutely not. ESPN or NBC or somebody interviewed coaches about the team and opposing coaches called him a "solid #5" for us. That's what he is - he plays on the 3rd line and top PP unit. JJ, Savard, Tyutin, and Murray (when healthy) are all above him. So maybe he's #4 this year with Murray out and Prout/Leopold/Goloubef rotating in. But to call him a #2 Dman is laughable.

Whatever arbitrary number people want to assign him is fine with me. But I think there is no question that he is now playing the best defense he has ever played. He has really minimized the mental mistakes which he used to make every five minutes or so on the ice.

I was using league-wide rank, where I suspect Wiz would currently fit in the 30-90 range (#2/3) based on his current play. I wasn't ranking him on the Jackets, though there's no doubt to my mind that he's also been better than Tyutin and Savard lately, and Wiz is third on the Jackets in ice-time, ahead of Tyutin.

Relative Corsi and relative Fenwick numbers put Wiz in top 2, if not #1, for CBJ. So does goal percentage for/against in 5x5 situations.
And yet I am persistently screaming at him for the big mistake. Maybe those mistakes are seemingly so visible because of the visual direct link to a goal against when a turnover occurs at the blue line...compared to mistakes others make that result in opponent scoring chances but which aren't so visually directly linked. I don't know, I just don't feel confident with Wiz... yet I see some of his strengths, I would agree some improvement in this year, but I still don't particulary see him as a huge plus. While the RC and RF numbers put him in top 2 for D on CBJ (among those playing significant minutes this season and same was true last season), this season's numbers aren't that good overall, in part because CBJ overall RC and RF 5x5 numbers aren't good. I have more confidence in Tyutin, yet Tyutin's RC and RF are below Wiz's....

This is why stats, scouting reports and your own observations are just pieces to creating an overall picture. And not everyone's going to interpret the stats, read the reports and react to what they see differently.

So some will react the same to what they see?
