But the question was regarding how they won two cups, which they did with the 3 primarily on their own pairings

Ok but how did Sergachev's pair anchoring compare to Hedman's and McDonagh's ice time in those cup years

to be honest I did miss the cup years you mentioned but still ... It looks like Sergachev's time anchoring a pair does not come close to Hedman or McDonagh ..which was my original point of not moving Sanderson to the 3rd pair as it seldom works out that the 3rd pair Icetime will match
and as I stated I would not want the result of this meaning Sanderson to the 3rd pair ... I will now add regardless of what other teams have done

1. 1151:50 minutes with Cernak, Foote, Bogosian, Rutta, Sustr, Claessen or Raddysh (70%)
2. 578:40 minutes with Hedman or Mcdonaugh (30%)

So yeah, he anchored his own pairing and play PP/PK with Hedman/Mcdonaugh... Which Sanderson would too, as suggested.

It was 70/30 5v5.

Serg wasn't on the same PP unit as Hedman.

But the question was regarding how they won two cups, which they did with the 3 primarily on their own pairings

You can look at Tampa's minutes in their most recent cup run. Serg played about 1/3 of his minutes on the right side 5v5.

I wonder though.....4 rounds of playoff hockey plus 82 regular seaosn games.....that's a lot of icetime.

Perhaps going 20-20-20 might be the best thing in the long run?

Edit to add:

It keeps everyone on their strong side, and it lowers CHabot's icetime. We've seen over and over what happens when Chabot gets overused out there. And we know how amazing he is when he isn't over used. This might solve that problem.
Bingo ! Talk about mobility on the back end now ...

I just hope we aren't expecting too much from him and that people understand its as much a move for NOW as it is for the FUTURE.

Ottawa has no where near as complete D man as Hedman is. He a one in a million player and is capable of doing what he does on any given night. He will probably go down as one of the best all around dman ever

Was mulling it over this morning and I think these pairings would be killer:

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Hamonic
Chychrun - Brannstrom

Spread out the icetime a bit more and you literally have three excellent pairings on the ice all game long and the opposition just sits there crying.

Blatantly false too. It was 30% of the icetime with Hedman/Mcdonaugh in all situations in 2021-2022. Look it up.

I did look it up. I didn't mean to imply anything about their all situations deployment. I was talking about their 5v5 minutes since that is what is relevant for discussion about pairings. And it was 2 to 1 L to R for Serg 5v5 in their most recent cup run. He was clearly playing a hybrid role as bottom pair LD, and RD on the top pairs each game.

I know this is a year or two down the road but anyone think this trade makes Chabot a potential trade piece?

Him and EK on a pair for the Sweden WJC team in Ottawa was a treat

Excellent move by the Sens. I approve. Next year should be a much better year. in the meantime, I hope both he, Chabot and Batherson put in some Team Canada duty in May.

Yes was thinking that. We’ll get there when we get there though.
In the meantime, let’s see how everyone does.
Chabot has stepped it up last couple.

In the last cup win, all of McDonagh, Hedman and Serg got ~400-430 5v5 mins.

Serg was playing the left side for 275 of it, no doubt he played up with Hedman and occasionally McDonaugh to max out how much icetime they could get their top guys, but he very much was anchoring his own pair,

I think that's a good way to go for us as well, rather than have one of our best D playing 80% of their time on their offside.

Gonna be hard to do that when we're in the playoffs 😁

Definitely opens up a lot of interesting options to play with. Just a matter of finding the right fit.

Chychrun is deffo a guy who can work as a top pairing 1-2 defenseman, but we don't necessarily need to use him that way. Having him take some of the load off of Chabby, and in turn perhaps having some of the load taken off himself by not having to be the rock, could do wonders for each.

It's probably been mentioned here somewhere, but I don't want to read through a thousand posts and threads. Anyone know if he's playing tonight?

Brannstrom is better on left (he has played better lately). Hamonic should be on the third pair.

Sanderson - Chychrun
Chabot - Zub
Brannstrom - Hamonic

I seriously hope he had a better welcome than that. Not Mark Stone arriving in Vegas, but something!
He just flew the red eye to a road destination.

Definitely want to see those 4 in the top 4 in some way.
Who plays their offside can work itself out I really think Sanderson Chychrun would be good regardless of who flips over. I have watched Sanderson more closely as I am sure most here have and I think he has the smarts, mobility, and ability to move over.

Can't stop randomly giggling since yesterday.

All bickering about the lineup aside, the organization and fans have suffered through some painful years.

From a fan's perspective, this board has always kept the pain bearable and I'm glad we'll get to experience some good years together. The future is finally here. Cheers everyone (Pierre and DJ included)! :)
