Jake Walman Hits em w/ de Griddy

Who doesn't love a good celly? But in this particular case, it comes across like any 7 year old doing the expected Fortnite dances.

Make up your own celebratory dance moves, bro. Don't just regurgitate Tik-Tok tier memes. You're 27.
Congrats, you've made the same post as a bunch of other people. Why don't you get your own opinions instead of posting the same thing other people post?

I don't care what they do. Have some fun. The NFL is finally allowing entire offensive and defensive units to celebrate td's and interceptions without a flag. The CFL has a long history of teams getting creative with td celebrations. It has nothing to do with the other team. Short of a player celebrating by doing something over your team logo at center ice, it shouldn't be taken as a slight.

NHL fans: “God hockey players are so boring and dull”

Also NHL fans: “Why is this hockey player doing dances that kids like?”

I didn't realize there was a set age when we were responsible for coming up with our own dance moves.

Crap. I am way behind!!

I guess it's cool that this has become his thing.....not sure if any other player's used that celly nearly as often as Walman has.

He has fun with it, I'm sure the zoomers watching it absolutely love seeing it, no problem.
He's done it exactly... twice? Both times after scoring OT winners.

I bet he puts ketchup on hot dogs too....

I’m more offended by the word “celly” than any actual celebration.

Totally agree. I don't mind the evolution of language. Slang terms change over time. And I don't even mind when people younger than me use terms I'm not familiar with, or sound kind of dumb.

But the term "celly" is just terrible. That and calling a player "washed" are the only terms I can think of that boil my blood.

As for actually celebrating a goal? Go for it! Sports are entertainment. Entertain us!

it’s time to ask the tough questions: is banks washed as a poster?

The only caveat about elaborate celebrations is that the other team might pull it out some day in mocking fashion and you’ll just have to take it.

I’m reminded of Kuznetsov’s bird celly.

Edit: Damn it, now I’m doing it.

It's goofy as hell but it's also fun which isn't a bad thing at all.

I can't avoid but imagine how this would have gone down if it were against the Leafs with whats been the hottest topic the past days.

I think this is great. It appeals to the younger demographic and makes hockey something not old and crusty. May even get on the social media feeds of some people who wouldn’t normally even be aware hockey existed. May even cross cultural and racial divides and connect the sport to communities normally it wouldn’t. What’s to hate?

Also note he only does this after an OT winner, which to me is fine. I’d probably hate it after some random goal in the 2nd period of a 3-1 game or something. Save it for the special occasions.

Nah, it's gotta be more than that. At least 3 or 4 times he's dusted it off.

That article's from December, and mentions two OT celebrations where he used it.

The one against Vancouver would be #3.

Which probably means he's done it 3x more than the rest of the league combined. So......yeah, I'd say it's his thing. :dunno:

I cringe so hard when anyone over the age 18 says it . I’m all for players showing flair lol but the whole Annan a y to the end of everything in hockey just sounds very cringy .
You added a y to cringe just like they added a y and shortened celebration.

Celly is a slang word that predates cringey.

The green one is a name.

Edit here's the grammatically incorrect version as well, where the red one is a name.

I think a better equivalent would be that he eats sugary breakfast cereals.
There's nothing wrong with it, necessarily. Who doesn't eat cereal?! But after a certain point, you should graduate to the adults section of the aisle.

These type of meme-dances are huge with the younger crowd. It's like an entire language for these kids. If a shaggy-haired Zoomer in minor hockey, or even Junior wants to do a generic meme-dance - go ahead little guy. But 27 is a bit old for it imo.

It was awesome. Great for the fans, especially kids. No salt here even though he scored to beat my team
