Jake Walman Hits em w/ de Griddy

I guess it's cool that this has become his thing.....not sure if any other player's used that celly nearly as often as Walman has.

He has fun with it, I'm sure the zoomers watching it absolutely love seeing it, no problem.

I wonder if the feeling I feel watching him do this is the same feeling that boomers felt in the 90s when the Macarena became a thing

“What is this? What a stupid dance. Am I going to have to remember how to do this? Will my children start doing it in public?”

Pretty cringe but he scored a big goal let him have fun. Have zero problem with him dancing to celebrate a goal when it ices the game. If there was 10 mins left in a game 7 and someone tied it then did the griddy at center ice then maybe it'd necessitate some response but the games over let him have fun.

I think it’s a big cringe personally, but at the same time I can’t really stand the “you cannot celebrate or show excessive emotion at any time” crowd, so meh.

Whatever floats his boat.

Canuck fan here....let players celebrate how they want, bring some fun to the game....I would love to see the Canucks run up the score vs Detroit next time and after each goal hit the Griddy lol....just let the players celebrate how they want

It's way more niche than that.

The griddy (in sports) is really just a dance that a bunch of NFL guys were doing after scoring a touchdown or getting a sack or whatever. Justin Jefferson is the one who I think popularized it.

I don't mean this in a bad way at all, but it's really not surprising that a bunch of hockey fans (older and largely white) will roll their eyes at a dance that was popularized by much younger African-Americans. Some middle-aged dude in Ottawa or Buffalo or Ohio or Anaheim or or or would just be so far removed from where this kind of stuff originates.

Detroit players over celebrate their goals it seems this season.

After being a pretty awful team for several seasons, how dare they celebrate not being so awful.

For those that don't know, Walman did it once when he scored an OT goal. Now it's become his thing because he's scored multiple OT goals. It's not like he does the griddy every time he scores.

By his own admission he's kind of a Fortnite nerd so thought it was funny.

He said in the postgame (of the Canucks game) that he had never done it at home. He is working with the Children's hospital (Boys and Girls Club) to raise funds for charity and they are using his image doing the Griddy. It was Kid's Day at the arena on Saturday. I think we may not see him do it for a while now.

As a Van fan it's a bit goofy but I'm fine with it, though there have been some idiots in the media demanding retribution.

I expect some players will take his number and finish their checks when they play next, but nothing too spicy.

Wasn’t it kid’s night that game too? I don’t understand why people are turning into old church ladies about this.
Indeed it was. They had a kid on the PA announcing goals and penalties, too. I thought that was pretty awesome.

Walman has only done the griddy after he personally scores an overtime goal. It's not like he's celebrating like this after every goal.

In the recent postgame, he announced a charitable partnership that'll benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Detroit related to the dance.

I am cool with celebrations after scoring. I am unable to accept the term "celly", though. I just can't do it.

Who doesn't love a good celly? But in this particular case, it comes across like any 7 year old doing the expected Fortnite dances.

Make up your own celebratory dance moves, bro. Don't just regurgitate Tik-Tok tier memes. You're 27.
