Player Discussion Jake Sanderson (D) PART 3

He's a nerd who wouldn't know how to answer a question at the rink if he was watching a game with guys involved.

He had wingers 5'7 Pashkin and 5'8 Nygard ranked ahead of Sanderson in 2020, at 12th and 13th, which may quite literally be the worst bit of "scouting" you can find anywhere

Dummy had Stutzle 10th

He's not a nerd. Nerds have intelligence. He's a dork.

That is an interesting article.

Makes me wonder what Sigalet advised him versus what Baumgartner did.

If Sigalet's advice is that helpful, I think it would be wise for the other Senators defensemen to consult with Sigalet too; some of them could definitely use his help (e.g., Hamonic, Matinpalo, Kleven).

With 23 pts since 25 Jan (21 games), Sanderson is:

Second on the Sens in scoring behind Stutzle,
Second among D league wide in scoring behind only Makar
3rd in Pts per game league wide among D behind Makar and Hughes.
He has looked like the Sanderson we were accustomed to.

Huh...

Slav-enski. Thats sound like money

He's 10th in the NHL now in points by a defenseman, and how many of the guys above him are also in their team's shutdown pair, drawing the toughest assignments every night?

In the top 10, only Hutson is younger, and he's certainly not getting the tough jobs.

The next seven years at eight mil per should be one of the highest value contracts in the league.

He's looking like a top 7 D year-in and year-out for the next 12 years. Unreal draft pick and MVP of the team.

Imagine we drafted Drysdale instead. Team would still be in the basement.

For all the media talk about getting goaltending being the key to Ottawa making the playoffs, or Tkachuk is the leader that drags them into the fight, or Stutzle being the electric #1 center that is dangerous every shift - Sanderson is the best player on this team and MVP. There's zero doubt in my mind about it.

Hockey is still a team game and no individual player can truly be the only reason behind a team's success (ok Hasek maybe), but without Jake this team would be screwed. And once the playoffs start, I think he's going to be even more critical; he's a big game player on top of everything else that's calm with a great work ethic and a student of the game. That poise and influence bleeds into everyone else around him.

I'm excited to see how the rest of the guys perform and can't wait for a healthy rested Tkachuk to finally taste playoff hockey, but Tkachuk has a tendency to try too hard instead of playing his game to maximum effectiveness so we'll see what happens there. Sanderson is the only guy on this team I don't worry about

Sanderson is better at his position than the rest of our stars. He's still developing too. Seeing a full season with a competent partner means we're in for a treat.

Sanderson has taken his game to another level—surpassing 50 points and ranking among the league’s best in defensive metrics. He’s now in the Norris Trophy conversation, anchoring the Sens blue line with poise, elite two-way play, and leadership well beyond his years.

We need to remember he's only 22 years old! I expect a huge breakout year for him next year.

Sanderson was clearly the best player on the ice last night. This is becoming a common occurrence.
I think Stutzle is playing through something, because his play has dropped off big time. When he's at his best, he's up there with Sanderson, but that hasn't been happening for the last dozen games or so.

I think Stutzle has no chemistry with who he has been playing with. He needs to be stapled to Tkachuk, both players need each other to produce. Also, the PP has been so-so lately, that's where Tim gets a lot of his production. Also, a lot of Tim's production in his career has been from rushes up ice, especially odd-man rushes. The Sens' defense-first style eliminates opponents' odd-man rushes, but the cost is that we get few odd-man rushes in such a controlled game.

It's a double-edged sword: our opponents get less high-danger chances, but we get less as well. It's a net positive, as we win more games with this style.

Idk, Last while, his shots are way down.

First 60 games, he was getting over 2 shots a game,
Last 19 he has 1.4/gp

He's also losing control of the puck in scenarios where earlier he wouldn't. I do think having Brady with him will help, but I think there's more to it than that, he's got 1 pt in his last 8 games,

He mentioned he felt too heavy early in the season here:

“(At) the start of the season, I think I was a little too heavy, and I didn't feel as like fast, and I felt a little lethargic, so felt like I lost little weight,” Sanderson told Sportsnet.ca “And, now I’ve kind of found that sweet spot.”
He definitely looked slower to start the season so I guess this is why.

Anyway, good article in general for those who
