Confirmed with Link: Jake Evans Signs Extension 4 Years 2 85m Aav

Really good contract obviously.

With all of these good contracts Montreal has signed I really hope they spend to the cap as it increases. I expect the % of teams that spend to the cap limit to decrease as the cap goes up, especially past $100 million. This could be a real advantage as Montreal, hopefully, enters their cup contending window.
The Slaf contract is questionnable. Price's contract will be traded to a team to reach capfloor while the Habs will still be on the hook for Gallagher and Anderson. The worst is over. Gally goes on LTIR. Laine and Matheson are traded for futures, but the Slaf contract might hurt longterm.

Olivier and Greenway, bottom 6 players and way worst than Evans, all got more!! I know Evans doesn’t bring their physicality , but he really took one for the team. Fair value was 4*3,5m$

Olivier would have unquestionably got more on the open market than Evans.......and no, he is not "way worst" than Evans lol. Greenway very likely gets more on the open market than Evans as well. Greenway with similar production but at 6'6" 231 lbs with decent wheels and the ability to play on a 3rd line is worth more than Evans in many GM's eyes.

I am happy that we kept him at a reasonable number (definitely a home team discount) and I believe that he will be a significant asset moving forward for this organization but you are engaging this discussion from an egregiously biased perspective with regards to the comparatives that you selected.

Evans shuts down the best players from the opposition every night, he’s more useful than both. I would take Olivier anytime , don’t get me wrong . Greenway is nothing great , just is seize.

Evans hasn't been same player since he signed this contract. Pulled a David Desharnais. Who played decent hockey for us until he signed long term deal. Then turned into an AHL caliber player. Bad part is we could have got a first for him at deadline.

I will argue that Evans is back to same struggle that hurt his production in the past. His linemates are not pulling their weight. Heineman doesn't look like an NHLer right now and Armia is ineffective with his injury

That is an insane take to have about a deal that hasn't even started yet.

He is and has always been a defensive specialist and at $2.8M per year, he's just fine continuing that role moving forward.

The thing is, right now we need that line to be what it was earlier this year. But I think with Armia severly limited, it can't be. Maybe Evans is injured too.

Armia is injured, Heineman has not been the same since coming back from his injury. I'm glad HuGo didn't fall for the recency bias with Evan's line hot first half start.

100K = 1pts
2.85 m = 28,5 pts
Maybe with a small inflation due to the cap going up.

10 g + 20 a = 30 pts with top PK duties is about what I expect for Evans. I call him a 3.5 C, too good to be a fourth line center, not good enough to be a third line center. Still a good contract.

He’s showing us right now that he isn’t "too good" to be a 4th line centre - it’s exactly what he is

I'd play Evans with Laine and Newhook, if Roy is coming out and we're going 11 D. And then find spot duty for Armia and Heineman. They're just not doing much right now.

He's a 4th liner. You can't really expect him to not have a couple bad stretches every season. I swear some people think all four lines should have Crosby's consistency as if that's possible.

Josh Anderson is very consistent and he's a 3rd-4th liner.

Players like Evans, if they don't score a bit, they are easily replaceable. Bring in Condotta and you wont see the difference.

Dude is so easy to play against.

The rumour says he will play the next Invisible Man in a big movie.
