If they re-sign Armia, Montreal will have best 4th line in NHL.
They already do… in fact they have the best bottom-6 in the NHL. The 2nd line is / has been their Achilles heel from taking next step to becoming & staying a top-10 team - specifically lack of 2C

Armia can choose to sign one year deals with us around 2m.. but he's not getting term from me.
I’d give him 2-yrs at $2.5M without blinking - he’s accepted his role & is thriving in it

Very difficult to find big body ox w skill who are willing & eager to play the 4th line PK role Armia does

I'm not so sure about that but yes, the 2nd line's lack of production has held the team back this year. Even with a minor bump from them may have put us in the playoffs somewhat comfortably imo.

Which team has a better bottom-6 collectively?

63G scored collectively, top end PK - Habs 5OA in PK, 0.6% from being 3OA.
Guess it all depends what a team needs and asks from from their group. Our guys have been excellent, no question.

I view the penalty kill as a team stat which combines forwards, defensemen and a goalie... not just bottom 6 forwards....but everyone has a difference of opinion.

Important signing. Without him, the Habs would have taken a step back next season. I'm surprised he took so little, he's pretty good player and still on a slow and steady development curve. I don't think this will be his career year at wall, he's a savvy player

Thought of that but he’d be more likely to seek a long term deal so at this point, a trade would make more sense. Evans was the critical signing and now that it’s been secured, there is no point overly chasing bottom line players — cap increases are best used on elite level players.

Indeed, but Armia also stated he wants to stay in Montreal. If he wants that, he'll take whatever HuGo throws at him. One year deal, 2 mil max, or buh bye teddybear.

They play more than the usual bottom 6 though because of our lack of a 2nd line. Evans is playing 15:34 a game which is pretty high for a 3rd line center. The only player in our lineup with what would be considered normal 4th line TOI is Heineman. We basically have a bottom 9 instead of a bottom 6 which is a problem KH will have to solve.

As it stands now, if we get a 2c, I see room for only one of Gallagher or Armia on the roster. Maybe Gallgher can be traded at 50% retained.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - 2c - Demidov
Newhook - Dach - Anderson
Heineman - Evans - Armia/Gallagher

Beck, Kapanen, Roy in Laval until there are injuries.

Which has the likelihood of changing starting next season w an injection of Demigod…

Jake Evans press conference.

Highlights. His whole apartment was packed up ready to go in a trade but his heart told him to stay here. He spoke to ex team mates who told him, chasing money is not the way to go about it. He loves the organization, his team mates, the city and the fans. And decided to stay.

he will now buy a house and settle here.

I think that's a bit misleading.

He knew that either way, he was moving out of his appartment... whether he was traded or signed long term to stay!
