I wonder...how is it like? How is Evans like McKegg? And how are you not unable to understand that if we sign Danault it's for 5M$ per year for numerous years? For absolutely NO OFFENSE to show for? How is it still comparable to McKegg?
Evans is as established an NHLer as McKegg. In fact less.

Jake is a very good, smart AHL player that has shown to be able to translate his best traits to the NHL for stretches. Nothing more. Players like Michel Chaput or Jordan Weal have also shown ability to look like decent NHL players for streches.

I have no doubt Evans has the talent and drive to establish himself as a regular, but projecting him as a #3C is effectively based on nothing.

Because he shut down Matthews 3 minutes a game while Danault shut down Matthews 20 minutes a game? So he is ready taking Danault's spot full time? What about wait and see next round or take a look who's available free agency next summer?

you are right, but to me the best shut down was both together and i like it that way thank you.

Evans has a much more rounded game than either Chaput or Weal. I've seen all 3 more than enough to know that. He has more upside and potential to stick in the NHL because he's not a one way offensive player like Weal and he's shown much more offensive potential in the NHL that I have ever seen from Chaput. Chaput was the definition of a grinder in the NHL.

I don't know about a #3 but he's far better than those other guys. I think it's possible. His new found speed changes everything. He's an older kid but still has very little game experience. #3 is doable and wouldn't be a huge surprise for me but it's still likely a best case scenario. I really liked his game on the wing. That's fantastic that he's an option there too. Great young player to have

This team needs a transfusion of speed. Whether Evans can provide any offence himself, his speed on the forecheck and on the attack will open up the ice for more talented players. And in a cap world, Evans provides a big bang for the dollar in his ability to perhaps center the third line, contribute to the team's median level of speed, kill penalties and play 3 on 3. Hopefully the team protects him in the expansion draft as Evens is clearly a useful player who can punch above his weight (fiscally speaking).

You can't be serious. Now comparing Evans to Chaput and Weal.....you don't see everything Evans do compared to those guys? You don't see the difference in hockey IQ? You don't see the improvement in his skating since he was drafted? How many games did Chaput and Weal were trusted to play against the best line of another team? And will continue to do so in this series?

In hockey you need to do projections. 'Cause when you don't, you will end up with a Danault for 5 years at 5.5. With huge contracts that you will regret at year 2. I'm projecting that with confidence, Evans could be a 3rd line C in the league.

The day you put your confidence in him to be a winger on your line that will check the best line of the other team is the day that you can take the same guy and make him center a 3rd line.

How good can Jake Evans be? As a young center he might be an important piece to protect for the expansion draft. If he can keep improving, could he become a 3C?

He has improved every single year since he was drafted, so until that stops happening, there's no telling how good he will end up. Not saying he will be great or end up a top 6 forward just that he has exceeded expectations each year so far and even if he only improves a little more that's still a solid 4th liner for us.

I think MB will try to sign Danault but if he dosen't I'm confident enough that Evans can do just as good defensively and take on his duties. Unfortunately though, I don't see much more in Evans' game. He's very soft although he plays with great effort, just was no match in the corners vs TB. I hope he bulks up a little 170-180 lbs is very light in the NHL. At 20 I was like this, lean 170 lbs and a few years of training later I was a 200lbs built like a truck guy and although I didn't play at the highest level at hockey, it greatly helped so I imagine how it must be at the NHL level, where every other guy is a strong as f*** athlete.

Danault is a consistent Selke Finalist who Austin Matthews, Scheifele, and McKinnon have publicly commented on for his defensive prowess.

What makes you confident Evans can "do just as good defensively and take on his duties" ?

Pretty happy it worked out and we got to protect the guy afterall, he'll have a big role next year

Glad hes sticking around

i just hope he's okay going forward. i mean he bounced back from these concussions fairly fast so hopefully that's a good thing? I know nothing about concussions.

Loved his play early in the playoffs. Very interesting to see how he develops

The question is, can he be a 3C, he is already great defensively and on the PK can he put up 35 points?

If he plays as much as Danault played, I'd say yes for sure about 30-35 pts. He's got more offense in him than Danault, but not as good defensively now as Danault. He's got more speed though, so if the strenght and IQ develops he'll maybe be even better than him.

Don't get me wrong Danault is very good defensively. But which other player gets to only play defense while being a forward? Takes a bit off his shoulder if you ask me. It's easier to backcheck when you barely go in the O-zone.

I'm hoping we seign someone like Grnalund to replace Tatar. I still prefer Lehkonen on the 4th line or a pure shutdown line.
The best shutdown lines are not just passively defending in their own zone. They are tilting the ice away from their own zone by winning the neutral zone battles and being effective forecheckers as well.

Gallagher on such a line works well.

I don't think you understand why the Danault line has been effective 5-on-5.
