Crazy stats, all their goalies are doing reaally well though. I don't watch them though, will be interesting to see how he does in Laval.

Also funny story, the goalie the Flyers drafted in the third round is playing second fiddle to Volokhin, only 10 games played to Volokhin's 34. Take that!
The Flyers goalie has played 17 games in the VHL this year which is a higher league than the MHL

So Allen accepted a trade to get away from the 3-goalie system in Montreal to find himself in another 3-goalie system in New Jersey.

After they acquired Allen, Devils sent Schmid to the AHL. And then acquire Kahkonen from the Sharks. And they still have Daws.

Daws is waiver-exempt. But with Schmid in the AHL, they also have a 3-goalie system in Utica (Schmid, Kallgren & Poulter). Not to mention, they sent Schmid down so he can get most of the starts. Sending Daws down would only complicate the matters more.

Allen played well last night. The 3 goalie system seemed to hurt him.

The difference is that in Montreal, Allen was at best second best option. In NJ, he's the best option.

Apparently he let in 2 on the first 3 shots. That sounds familiar 😉

Joking aside, here’s hoping he hits the 40 game mark.

Assuming Allen needed some assurances from Devil's management before waiving his NTC that he'll be in a two goalie system in NJD next year - no way he agrees to this trade unless they made him some type of verbal promise

One of them was a huge stinker. But he shut the door from there on out, and by all accounts was very good.

Playing on a rebuilding team hurt him. He was generally better with lots of rest. I don’t remember him ever playing a series of good games. NJ is a pretty good team so he should do better.

So with the NJD acquiring Markstrom - will it make it more challenging for Allen to reach the conditions involved to become a 2nd?

*Conditions: Upgrades to 2025 2nd round pick if Allen plays in 40 or more 2024-25 games and if the club that Allen is a member of qualifies for the playoffs in 2024-25

I think we all knew that Devils would be acquiring a starter. I feel Markstrom isn't that much of an upgrade over Allen and at age 34 he could easily falter so I see this as a positive. Here's hoping Allen steps up and outplays Markstrom next year

It was almost a foregone conclusion that the conditions wouldn't be met when we all knew Devils were looking for a legit #1 goalie.

Only way Allen plays 40 games is if Markstrom gets hurt and is out a good while.

Think you pretty much know the answer lol..

but in all honesty it just does not matter,
It was a miracle we got ANYTHING better than a 4th round pick ANYway

I can even imagine Hughes hearing Devils come back with the condition and him in his head being like "yeahhhhh yeah whatever guys, just take him, thanks"

Almost certain that the pick remains a 3rd rounder now.

Markstrom is 34 with a lot of milage. I would agree the odds say our pick is a 3rd rounder but lets break it down.

Without any injury, what is the plan? Markstrom at age 34 to play 50 and Allen to play 32? All it would take is Markstrom going down for a month. I doubt they have plans to play Markstrom 60 games and Allen 22.

I'm going to say there is a 70% chance our pick is a 3rd.

There clearly was everything wrong with the mental side of his game as has been well established by MSL this season and with the addition of a mental performance coach, Jean Francois Menard who has worked extensively with Armia this season.

Armia is an very good hockey player who has struggled mightily with the mental side of the game.

Playing in International tournaments that are Mickey Mouse level relative to the NHL is a ridiculous comparison and only goes to show how much better he is when he is not overwhelmed by anxiety and expectations to earn his contract. He does not choose to not play well, he just really struggles to focus retain confidence when things go poorly in the NHL where the expectations and scrutiny are orders of magnitude more intense, especially in Montreal

I get it when people are frustrated with a player but this is just another example of mob behaviour where fans typically vilify players who do not meet their expectations and resort to tribal marginalization of the offending player where they will twist themselves into a cynical pretzel in order to find any way to blame the player for anything that is wrong with their favourite team.

The fan stuff isn't cool but anyone earning USD 3.8m+ isn't a victim that deserves any protection from the environment. Pressure comes with the territory, it's part of his job to handle it.
