They should have put the condition on if they buy Allen out. There's like a 1% chance of Allen playing 40 games next year. The odds are Devils add a legit starting goalie in the offseason.

We already had Hoffman gone in the first trade. We re-shipped Petry to Detroit at 50% for Gustav Lindstrom and a 4th.Savard they have been trying to make work this week and presumably it just wasn't there. We'll get a slot back in the summer and the lack of a retention slot isn't why Matheson/Newhook/Anderson won't be traded today. If there's no bigger trades in discussion those slots are involved with the alternative would be playing 3rd party broker to get a 4th-6th, so no biggie. We could also pay another team a 4th-6th to retain on Evans/Savard if it comes to that.
I don't think Newhook or Matheson would really benefit all that much from retain either. Matheson's already pretty cheap if a team is considering him for their top 4 and Newhook is reasonably priced, especially if we're doing a money in/money out kind of trade for a big upgrade.
Mike Hoffman gone, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, and a 3rd that can become a 2nd? That seems reasonable to me for 3 retain slots this year and 2 for next year.

So a whole bunch of 3rds and 4ths.
Disagreeed on the bolded. Matheson at 2.4 and Newhook at 1.5 become immensely valauable players to contenders.
A couple of years ago we saw Vegas have to dump Pacioretty to save space.
This year? Just as an example, Carolina will have to decide what to do with Necas. They might prefer Newhook at 1.5 and while keeping Guentzel where we would prefer the better player in Necas regardless of cap hit at this point in our rebuild.
To get value? Why would we be trading Matheson or Newhook.. and why would we be retaining on those players?
So he's our tank commander?Jake Allen is 2-12 since November.
Bring that to .500(Primeau number)
And we are in Washington spot. Now add Dach.
and then he went on to have a shitty season with shitty numbers to only improve his value.. hahaIt makes sense, early in the season the insiders said Allen's value was worth about a 4th round pick at 50% retained
Apparently the 40 games is for 2024 / 25 season....doubt it's happening .....but one can dream.strongly doubt Allen will play more than 40 games for them next season
edit: hang on, is it cumulative with this year? including playoffs?
Bro Bergevin was more playing dodgeballWell it's nice to see Hughes playing chess....was so used to seeing Bergevin playing checkers.
Nah...he couldn't dodge a wrench.Bro Bergevin was more playing dodgeball
Why?Hughes using his retention spot on Allen instead of Savard is very, very, very smart.
If NJ is serious about trying to win, he won’t hit that 40 game mark. Thanks Jake! Now go win some games in NJ so they have to let you play 40 games.
Found what he was actually playing......hide and seek....good times.Bro Bergevin was more playing dodgeball
Wow i just learned a new wordIf we Had a negititaor like Hughes. The Expos would still be in Canada! Great Guys! Hugo! Everything is Possible!
Maybe in Utica? If NJ is serious about trying to win, he won’t hit that 40 game mark.
We don't know that yet. At all.Jake Allen is 2-12 since November.
