Confirmed with Link: Jake Allen (50% retained) traded to the Devils for cond. 2025 3rd (2025 2nd if Allen plays in 40+ games and team qualifies for playoffs next season)

Well, I didn't think Allen would bring back anything more than a 5th w 50% retention seeing his play this year o_O

I'm pretty happy with it even if it ends up being a 3rd not a 2nd

KH apparently knows the market, holding all 3 goalies paid off in the end!
I don't understand why people get all excited about 3rd+ rounders... at those rounds you're basically looking for luck for them to even make the NhL, let alone contribute.
Unless those rounds are reserved for AHL depth and molding to our system? If thats the case then i understand the strategy, but nothing has shown me that is how they draft.
A 2025 3rd rounder is at least not sniffing the NHL until 2028..

Now watch one of Monty ir Primeau go down with an injury this weekend.

Just checking in boys! He did it! He f***ing did it!!!

Well, we gave up a 3rd to get him, and will get one back at least. 50% retention though.

I doubt he plays 40+ games next year to give us 2nd. I guess Hughes couldn't get 40 games this year and next.

It's done. Good luck, Allen.

I see value in rounds 1-3 myself at the draft, so a third that could turn into a second is a nice return for a vet that's been struggling... esp since I thought Allen had next to zero value other than bringing vet experience (I thought a 5th rnd pick at best).

Add in we no longer need to worry about a 3 goalie rotation. If Monty of Prim gets hurt, it would suck but that's just the way she goes sometimes, can't let that hold you back as a GM when your team isn't making a playoff push and the two backups are struggling to find consistency.

But also, a 3rd can be used as currency in a future trade, which you never really know when you'll need that extra bit of value to make a trade work at the draft, offseason, or next deadline.

Some of my excitement is probably from relief that KH didn't waste the year holding all 3 goalies for zero return in the end :thumbu:

It's very possible, Allen has to play in 40 of New Jerseys next 101 games. Not a sure thing but considering they essentially have a tendem in isn't unlikely.

It's for next season only. NJ will certainly acquire a real starter. We only get that pick if they get injury struggle.

Allen barely crossed that mark here once and that was on a crappy club littered with injuries.

So it looks like the market for Savard didn't shape up like it needed to to be worth moving, he's more valuable to us. That allowed Kent to pivot to retaining on Allen and clearing the goalie situation. I'm impressed with the return as well, a guaranteed 3rd with a shot at a 2nd is great for a backup goalie in this market.

This guy is turning himself into one of the best asset managers in the NHL. Very nice work.

What is Allen's 1/2 salary? How much are we saving to get us that big, fast, skilled physical mean second line winger?

Considering the others trades (there might 1 or 2 trade where seller good value...) this is a pretty good trade... Devil are making the playoff next year but there doing to shut him down after 39 games for sure haha

Thank you Allen.

I'm happy the goalie situation is resolved. And even if the condition isn't met, a 3rd for who became your third goalie is real good.
Habs traded DeSmith for a 3rd and Pearson at the start of the season (it was basically a 3rd to eat Pearson's cap hit).

So a 3rd for Allen half retained for a year is very good.
