French canadian, he's always sounded like that.

It amazes me how they still keep such a strong accent into adulthood while living in the states.

Growing up and living in Ottawa, I've known plenty of people that could barely speak any English and had the biggest accent, only to work in a predominantly English environment for a decade and almost don't have an accent anymore.

Letang has managed to keep it pretty strongly. Whereas someone like Mario Lemieux, you almost don't hear it. Same with someone like Chabot. Had a huge accent when he got drafted but barely has one now. But then Giroux still has one.

I guess it depends on their personal lives. Maybe Letang talks french with his personal friends daily? I dunno.

I grew up in the northeast and spent many years around Massachusetts folks before I moved to Colorado. I think with many people there’s intention with the maintaining of their accent. The Massachusetts guys I’ve known for a long time here in CO haven’t lost a bit of it, and they are exactly the kind of guys that would want you to know that’s where their from before you even know their name.

Others, like you say you can barely tell. These people also don’t really wear it like a badge of honor.

One of the more interesting cases of this is Kimmo Timonen. Finnish guy comes to North America, lives in Nashville, TN for like a decade and his English is a unique combo of Finnish/TN accent.

Speaking of Nashville, have you heard Mike Fisher talk recently? He's got the full cowboy accent now lol. Watching an interview from like 2012 and then again from 2022 or something and it's night and day.

The problem is Jagr said he'd jump at the chance to play for league minimum if Lemieux ever called a few years prior to singing with the flyers. How he owed so much to Lemieux, etc etc.

Then Svoboda (his agent) coming out when talks of a comeback were heating up and saying Jagr's heart is in pittsburgh.

It's really unsurprising (and not undeserved) he caught so much flack for going to the Flyers (other than the obvious fact it's the flyers)

Your not endearing yourself to fans when you say feel good statements and not follow up on them.

I get Jagr is your favourite player (mine too). But no need to whitewash history. Neither Jagr nor Shero look good in this story.
That's not what it was though. Jagr wanted to feel wanted - and he never got that impression from Shero.
Philly, OTOH, came out and met him and made him feel wanted.

This was, by all account, absolutely the #1 reason for him signing in Philly at the time.

I know it’s heresy, but he looks so much better on skates than Howe did at that age it’s unbelievable.
It is natural that players skated ”worse” in 70s than today. When it comes to Howe, of course he did not skate as well as Jagr today.
