Ray Shero did not want Jaromir Jagr. As he told Jagr to wait while the Pens tried to sign Tyler Kennedy to a contract. Thats what it came down to. Jagr was all about proving he belonged on a top line and to stay in the NHL for years (which he did).

The Penguins wanting to sign Kennedy before Jagr made Jagr feel he would not get that chance, which he did in with the Flyers instead. If the Penguins hade wanted Jagr for real, Jagr would have been there.

Worked out to the best for everyone as Jagr found success and ended up 2nd on the nhl points list while the Pens won 2 stanley cups.

Only clown in the story was Ray Shero who failed and got fired!
The problem is Jagr said he'd jump at the chance to play for league minimum if Lemieux ever called a few years prior to singing with the flyers. How he owed so much to Lemieux, etc etc.

Then Svoboda (his agent) coming out when talks of a comeback were heating up and saying Jagr's heart is in pittsburgh.

It's really unsurprising (and not undeserved) he caught so much flack for going to the Flyers (other than the obvious fact it's the flyers)

Your not endearing yourself to fans when you say feel good statements and not follow up on them.

I get Jagr is your favourite player (mine too). But no need to whitewash history. Neither Jagr nor Shero look good in this story.

Bit of a shame that Pittsburgh never brought him back for another stint, dude played for like 50 other teams it seems like.

It is unfortunate that Pittsburgh isn't totally dead when it comes to making the playoffs.

Otherwise, if they were at the bottom of the standings, then signing Jagr to play some games for them could be possible.

He could finish his career where it started, and also be the oldest player to ever play in an NHL game.

2 minutes into practice and Sullivan had him playing on his left wing with Carter and White to learn how to play with proper sticktoitiveness.

It's also because in that same year, Jagr's Grandfather was imprisoned by Russia for opposing his farm being stolen from him. It's a very deep meaning for Jagr to wear that number, love the bloke, was one of my faves, but to also be a fan of Jagr there comes the warts of how Jagr was, while he had so many amazing qualities about him - one of the worst was his double speak, you never knew if he meant what he said about wanting to play here nor there or other things.

But that's whatever, it's like the smallest gripe to have with a player that was incredible to watch in his prime and as Pens fans, we've been very lucky.
