Trouba needs to be traded and you attach a draft pick to him to get the full benefit of the move. The solution is obvious. If Drury refuses to do that then we will be in Groundhog Day every deadline trying to put a band aid over a top 6 RW wound until Othman can take that spot.

Trying to ignore his contract for a minute, is Trouba actually a good fit as third pair RHD next to Zac Jones or someone else? Ideally that spot is a physical dman who can also PK, which sort of matches Trouba. At the same time, Trouba has been so bad in the playoffs the last few years, that I’d probably rather have someone else back in that spot who plays a simpler/less error prone game. Just for comparison’s sake, a guy like Justin Braun from a couple years ago would be totally fine and probably not cost much.

The thing with Trouba is that we already have his replacement on the roster. Schneider could easily step into his role, most importantly on the PK. Then you can fill that 3rd RD with any free agent or trade. You don't need a specific type of player or fill any particular role. The guy doesn't have to command a huge salary either. Fox and Schneider give you that luxury.

Which teams want him? Which teams will Trouba waive for? Which pick(s) are we sending?

It all sounds very simple until you actually get into the details of it and realize it isn't simple at all. We don't have any 2nd round picks until 2027, and we don't have a 3rd round pick until 2026. In your proposed scenario then, we would have to send at least a 1st. It cost us 2 2nd round picks to dump 2 years of Nemeth @ 2.5 mil. We better hope Trouba has more actual value around the league if we want to trade him.

That's not to say he can't be traded, but there aren't many viable options.

If Goody and PLD can basically be traded then there is a legit chance Trouba can as well. Be careful what you wish for. If Trouba was playing injured these last few months he could sign with NJ or Philly and be a real thorn in our side.

We will score a goal on at least one of his shifts every single game he plays against us, so there’s that too. I’ve zero fear of playing against him.
