Player Discussion Jacob Trouba

Zbad has been decent to good, just can't score.

Trouba can play good, blocking shots, being physical, taking out opposing forwards at the boards in his own zone.

That being said he is terrible at pinching, he is not speedy enough to get back, and offensively all he has is a big shot that never goes into the net.

If he played more within what he is or could be good at, I think he'd be viewed as much better player. He should let someone else carry the puck out as much as possible, lean way more toward not pinching and just become a physical, be in the right spot defensive player.

So he needs a great team to score points? Why the hell did we give him 8 million?
Because that was absolutely market for the player he was/is at the time of the contract. That the world would get hit by what amounts to a literal force majeure event a year later, causing the league and PA to renegotiate the cap for the foreseeable future was... oddly enough... not foreseeable at the time.

To be a #2 defenseman. Or do you believe that only those who put up high offensive numbers get paid like top players.
i think its time for you to get a new avatar:

I don't subscribe to labeling guys #1, #2, etc. Either I can throw you over the boards and I feel good about it or I can't. I felt real good about throwing rookie Sauer out there. What number was he? Real good about throwing Devils PTO reject Stralman out there. What number was he? What numbers were Yandle, Boyle, Redden and the rest of the donks we've had? Go ahead and label. Whatever number you label Trouba, he's a bad version of it.

not saying he's a worthless player. But Gorton got bamboozled
It was and is regarded as a Godfather type of offer. Come on. Trading Pionk and their own pick back to them for a guy that has been playing top pair minutes, logging the most usage and Gorton got bamboozled. Ok.

But again, different strokes for different folks. People see what they want to see, I guess.

As a fan who did not like the Rangers acquiring Trouba because if was evident he was going to get a contract like the one he did, I think the Rangers did so first off because they always liked him. I have no idea how that works, yet any player on any other team the Rangers are rumored to like has a good chance of finding himself on the Rangers.

Part 2, lack of options, at the time over two years the RD was a combination of, ADA being scratched, Pionk who while not that bad was not that good, Shattenkirk (another they should have avoided) and Smith (another avoidable deal) and McQuaid.

Trouba was young, physical and Winnipeg was making him look like he had a complete game.

In my opinion the Rangers pro scouting concerning already in the NHL defensemen has been less than stellar and they likely felt they were getting an all around top pair RD when really they were getting something similar to Girardi back when he was in his prime. (a player who did not carry the puck all that much, did not pinch all that much, was good at shot blocking, generally being in the way of the other teams offense, was somewhat physical and was good on the PK) Which still would not be a bad outcome, yet much like Girardi the cap hit just does not match up when it is being compared to other complete top pair guys who can excel in all situations.

Long story shorter, some combination of desperation and poor scouting.

You're fine with everything the team does. 1 cup in 26- going on 27 years and you're basically saying they can do no wrong

Trouba has had a string of bad games interrupted by being really good against Washington.

I'm not happy with how inconsistent he's been lately.

Or, ya know, he's actually been playing an outstanding game as a physical #2D – and thus, was actually a good acquisition who is now being paid a touch too much because of an unanticipated (and un-anticipate-able) flat cap due to a global pandemic.

But nah, Gorts got "bamboozled." Sigh.
Gorts gave him 8/7 thinking he'd be a ~ 50 point, all situations dman with a physical streak. He's gonna score like 15 points this season if he's lucky, he's good for a major blunder every other game, and he's like the 3rd highest paid RHD in the league with 6 years still to go. total disaster.

Well, to be fair it is one Cup in almost 80 years. But who is counting?

I am not fine with everytihng the team does. I am just not seeing the issues that are not expected of a the youngest team in the league and where they are in the bell curve of development. I am also not blind with rage and can think clearly and see what is happening on the ice. And perhaps some of the reasoning behind it.

Right. If you can't see the issues then you need to look harder

Which is the other side of the coin of if you look long and hard for issues, you will find them whether they are real or not.
There are definitely issues on this team but in your world, everyone is impatient and everything will be perfect soon. Keep waiting

There are issues on any team. But when it comes to a team that is the youngest in the league for two years running and whose roster is from from completed, yeah, I would say that hitting the panic button is a sign of impatience.
