Hi. Rob Blake. Bye.

Same height....they will play at the same weight when Trouba fills out. Rob put up a boat load of points every year (seemed to average around 50) , won the Norris, and was always one of the top D men in his day, played mean, and played for almost 20 seasons.

I would take this any day of the week!

What I like most about Trouba is his sense of "I'm playin' hockey and they're payin' me for it for f's sake."

This is an interesting comment. Some players just give off that vibe. He's comes off as very sure of himself. It could just be that he's an extrovert. I'm an armchair sports psychologist.

As I posted in the PGT:

@DarrenDreger: The more I watch Jacob Trouba, the more convinced I am he's a strong Calder contender. 20+ mins in 25 of 35 games played. Turns 20 in Feb.

Nice to see him getting noticed!

Dreger likes to identify potential superstars across the league so he can speculate how and when they will be traded to the Leafs for Kulemin and/or Mark Fraser.

Just wanted to point out that Trouba, had he not missed those games, would be tied with Krug for the defensive rookie scoring lead. At the same time, he plays more time per game than any other rookie. He's getting Calder talk and it will just keep increasing.

Trouba also plays on the pk and krug doesn't. Also compare team +/- vs player. Trouba is way better overall.

When he was drafted, I stated he will be a future captain. His play and composure is quickly making him my favorite player to watch.

So, I know we are all big homers. But is there anyone in the 2012 draft you would pick over Trouba right now?

Galchenyuk comes close, but I still pick Trouba first. I think Trouba will do bigger things in his career than Galchenyuk.

But, I also have a huge man crush of Trouba

Galchenyuk was the first person I thought of too. However, he's not having a very good sophomore season.

Would you guys say that Trouba is the best rookie defenseman this year?

He's up there. People are talking about Krug, but Trouba is scoring at the same rate, playing more minutes, playing PK, and just look at that +/- vs. the team for each player. Huge difference.

Plus he's been paired with Stuart.

Lindholm should also be in the conversation.

I take Trouba for sure. If we didn't have shief, I might be slightly tempted to have a forward like Galch, but TROUBA has future leader and potential MVP written all over him.

I would take him any day over Krug and its not close for me. Krug is older and smaller all be it a very talented offensive player but not more gifted offensively than Troubs. The only guys I put with Jacob are Ryan Murray and Lindholm, I have always been a huge Murray fan and Lindholm is unreal but I don't put either of them above Jacob. Easiest way for me to say it is nobody is "better" than Jacob.

How do you see it leafster?

I would still pick Galchenyuk over him. In terms of defensemen it's tied between Trouba and Murray, I prefer Trouba as he plays a more entertaining style of game than the "safer" game played by Murray... Morgan Reilly (yes folks we have to put aside the Leafs hatered for this) is close second. I haven't seen guys like Lindholm enough to form an opinion.
