Still pisses me off. Set aside the fact that Trouba's been mostly awful for us and his salary is an albatross on our cap, the f***er essentially rewrote his contract and throw a hissy fit and say "no, I won't report there." f*** you. You shitstain. I know you can't tell the future and you didn't anticipate your wife being a resident for an extra year, but that's your problem, not ours. This is a business. Ordinary people get fired and let go all the time due to "business reasons" or hell, for no reason at all and they don't have the luxury of having a big bank account to rely on through hard times. But this 8M a year f***head thinks he's bigger than the organization he works for and whined and bitched and took his ball and went home. What an asshole. Some captain. Worst captain since...Drury.

Like think of it in our day-to-day lives. Imagine the CEO of the company you work for says, "hey, we're drastically downsizing here, but we're opening another branch in many other states. We'd love for you to relocate there. You'd keep your lofty salary as is and everything." You can either say, "I love it here, but I understand it's a business so I'll relocate. Thanks for the accommodation" or "okay, well thank you for the opportunity, but I'd like to stay in this city as my family is here so I will just go look for another job." You don't pull a Hulk Hogan and say "that doesn't work for me, brother."

My guess is that a bunch of people are going to expect a notable sweetener from the Rangers even though teams don’t pay to offload cap nearly as much as narratives would have you think, and then when he’s taken with minimal retention without much of an addition (if any), people are going to call collusion.

detroit copp did good in ny , at 5 mil cap hit . trouba from michigan . redwing have plenty of other bout 3 mil cap hits or less they could stack on to make the cap work

How? He is clearing 8m of cap. Trouba probably can't return a 7th. He is an AHL level dman who threw a hissy fit over the summer and let it bleed into the locker room during the regular season. Everyone in the locker room can see he is the issue

I doubt he is waived. It’s a hard trade to make as well. With most teams it gotta be money in/money out
Hmmm.

I read a comment somewhere the Dallas was one of two of Troubas prefered destinations if push came to shove.

I read somewhere else, unrelated that Dallas has $10m cap to play with?

They could put in a claim. He could fail to report to Hartford and become a UFA if contract is terminated. Or, some sort of this for that trade could be in the process.

I guess we'll see soon enough.

Trouba may agree to a trade rather than be embarrassed by getting waived and then the unknown of going anywhere.

Also, he could be stubborn and call the rangers bluff.

This is really interesting

A few teams have been reported to be in the market for a top 4 RHD and a few of those have the available cap to fit him in without sending money back

This makes a lot of sense.

The cap is projected to skyrocket this summer. There are plenty of teams with ample cap space right now. There are likely some who look at Trouba's situation in NY and say to themselves...

"get him out of NY, get the C off of him, and he'll be a much better player. Maybe not $8m worth, but it's only $6m in actual cash, and it's not like we can go out this summer and sign a Trouba-equivalent for 1 year at $8m because we're not the world's most desirable destination right now".

From NY's perspective, you put Trouba in a position of getting to pick his destination vs. knowing that he's going to end up on the worst team amongst those interested -- or even worse, in Hartford.

That being said, I do, to an extent, feel bad for the guy. He negotiates this deal with an emphasis on having a full NMC until his wife's immovable residency is done... that residency gets delayed by a year due to COVID (as far as I recall)... now stuck in a posiiton of the wife having to give up her career, or split with a sub 1-year old baby.

If Trouba gets waived (when is the last time a team captain got that honour? :help: ), I'm not sure he makes it to Dallas.

But maybe.
