Posted it on our board before I saw this thread, if Tre lands in Toronto, he should take his garbage with him.

Markstrom and Kadri for Marner and Samsonov.
If thats too much, Markstrom and Kadri for Nylander and Samsonov
If thats still too much, we'll take a Tim Hortons free coffee coupon.
Even if its already redeemed.

If Treliving is headed to Toronto and he’s bringing in his own guys would Sutter coming too?
Nope. Too far away from the farm for this stage in his life I would reckon.

What kind of lopsided trade is that? Markstrom and Kadri are worth way less than a Tim's coffee.

Those two are Tre's most prized possessions. Keep that in mind if TO hires him.

I honestly can't see the Flames trading either player.

Markstrom will rebound, I have no doubt of that. People thought Bobrovski was garbage and look at him now.

Toffoli is the only pure goal scorer they have. Flames will use him to mentor young Coronato, if he makes the squad.

Treliving would focus on defense first.

I could see

Mangiapane, Tanev + Vladar
For
Nylander, Murray + Boston 1st

Just as an aside, but Markstrom and pending UFA Lindholm and besties. It's why Markstrom came here in the first place. I'm not sure he's waiving his NTC, and if he did, you might need to trade Lindholm as well

Players would hate him sadly, I think Sutter is a great coach just the players these days are very different than players say 10 years ago. They like a softer approach. He wouldn't work here and the players would all probably demand out.

Murray Edwards is a remarkably small & petty man with a poor hockey mind. The most recent example of that can be seen in him blocking Treliving from interviewing around the league because the latter refused to re-sign. Yes, that's right; despite Treliving's horrid asset management over the years, Edwards was desperate to have him stay.

So basically, if/when Treliving becomes the Leafs GM, good chance Edwards straight up blocks Conroy from trading with the Leafs. At least for a few years.

Vladdr isn't needed, they have Woll and he's been great, granted in a limited showing but he's getting his shot.

I just can't see Tre getting hired in Toronto. He will be known as the GM who let Gaudreau, Tkachuk, and Matthews walk lol

One has to ask themselves.... what is Calgary doing??

If they're rebuilding, then I think a Murray <-> Markstrom swap, even if you'r retaining a little bit on Markstrom, may make some sense. You get a Murray-Vladar tandem this year, know that Murray will likely miss some time, and Vladar-Wolf going forward.

In terms of Toffoli, as others have mentioned, there will be lots of teams interested if Calgary wants to move him... Toronto has cap space, but a ton of roster spots to fill out. The only realistic way to afford him, is if they're moving a Marner/Nylander.
Wait. The Flames eat salary and go forward with Murray as part of their tandem? Are you serious here?

It would literally be Toffoli and Markstrom for future considerations, maybe a late round pick

Short of an injury Woll will likely be the backup.

I say likely because there is a new GM.
I mean anything is possible, I just don't see a kid with 100 games of pro experience being the first choice, unless you're 100% sold on your starter. Pretty important season for the Leafs and I don't think anyone could whole heartedly sell a commitment to winning, with a Samsonov/Woll tandem. That being said, I'm not sure Vladar is the backup that gives you the warm and fuzzies either....may very well end up being someone more proven or not Samsonov.

Markstrom is an interesting case. I think there's a good chance he bounces back and is a top 10 goalie again. I don't see it with Kadri. He reminds me of Bennett, without the strength and work ethic. I don't know what Calgary should do with Markstrom honestly. I like Wolf a ton obviously, I like Vladar's upside. But Markstrom is still the only proven NHL goalie we have.

I cynically would have agreed on this a year or two ago. But with the Sutter firing and the annoyingly detailed interviews for GM and coach, I'm willing to sit back and give CSEC and ownership some props and be optimistic on this.

Biggest props would be seeing Conroy doing some trades with salary retention though. I think it's been like 20+ years since salary retention was a thing for trades? Prior to Treliving, decade+ for buyouts (but no idea why they'd greenlight buyouts over salary retention).

Oddly parallel to the coach/GM Sutter era, we do what we did with Kipper. We keep Markstrom (proven workhorse + starter), move Vladar and bring Wolf on to be back up, playing few games.

However, we hope to slowly allow Wolf to develop behind Markstrom but give him a few stretch of games as reward if he does well a la Rinne/Saros. Both cases would be taller guys with different goalie style mentoring smaller guys with higher athletic style.

Steal Ian Clark from Vancouver is the other major (underrated) move I'd love to see.

He has a full NMC, he'll be in a Flames jersey next year....good or bad.

Agreed. It's pretty clear to me Kadri and Huberdeau are full out cap dumps. We'd need to add assets to them or retain to move them. Just saying Markstrom isn't as clear in terms of value. I know he's not getting a 1st or top notch prospect back, but I don't know if we could get a 2nd and 4th for him or would need to add a 2nd and 4th to move him.
