Confirmed with Link: Jacob Fowler sign with Habs and a AHL with Laval!!

Two things:

1) we should give MB some credit because Suzuki, Caufield, and Guhle are his regime's moves.

2) Suzuki went 13th, Caufield went 15th, Guhle went 16th. And they are examples that you can still pick key pieces in that range. You even look at other teams, Jarvis went 13th to CAR. Holloway went 14th to EDM, but he's got 63 pts in 77 GP in STL. McAvoy went 14th to BOS. Connor went 17th to WPG.

If you draft well, you will find these types of key pieces for your franchise.

It's really hard to leave a franchise with zero after 10 years of being GM. I guess we can give every GM credit. I mean Bergevin rode Gaineys haul of Pacioretty/Subban/Price all under 25 with 33 year old Markov and 29 year old Plekanec with a bunch of picks for the first 5 years of his tenure.

Comparatively, feel like Hughes had to do way more work last 3 years to get MBs crown jewels Suzuki/Caufield/Guhle a little success. Fowler/Demidov hopefully can be the pieces that take them to next level.

To be fair, MB got Suzuki through dumb luck, he didn’t even want him
That's not true. He obviously wanted Suzuki or he wouldn't have traded for him. His original ask for Cody Glass, who was considered a much better prospect at the time. I'm sure nearly every GM in the league would have preferred Glass to Suzuki at the time.

Habs got lucky on that, but it happens. We also got lucky when the Rangers chose Jozef Balej over Tomas Plekanec when we traded for Kovalev.

Anyway, this thread is about Fowler. Very happy to see him signed. I have no idea when he'll be NHL ready, but he'll be fun to watch develop for sure.

Really excited about this finally happening. Fowler has wanted to be the starting goaltender for the montreal canadiens since he was 18 months old (you can find pictures of him with a habs mini stick at 18 months on X). He knows exactly what it means to be the no.1 in Montreal and has worked for that his whole life. It is awesome to see him in Brossard.

We will win a Stanley cup with this guy.

but.. but.. I thought he wouldn't sign? He's another reason why we should calm down with some of these stupid rumors. I miss the days when these so-called "insiders" didn't exist. Eklund has started a trend where clicks are more important than actural rumors.

I'll be like a proud papa when he's our number 1 goalie.

I was pumping his tires a year before his draft class and had him just slightly behind Hrabal in his own class, but essentially had a first round grade on him. Getting him in round 3 is insane and he's just done nothing but proven my evaluation of him right every step of the way. Hope he continues to do that.

Another Bergevin's myth...He received the offer, and he told Timmins if he should do it, himself preferring another player. Timmins simply said go for him, he's a good one. I don't see why it's a luck to ask your general scout to do his job, or from Bergevin to ask for his opinion. Of course, it's Bergevin, so...

Not wanting a player and the player not being the first choice are two very different things.

Price likely was not the Habs first choice in 2005, but they wanted him enough to use the 5th overall pick on him. You're being purposely obtuse , and this isn't the thread to discuss this anyway.

Go Fowler.

Title needs to be updated because it's not an ATO as we all thought and was rumored, but a 1-way AHL deal to finish the season with the Rocket.

My guess, that was the incentive to get him to go to the AHL and have his ELC kick in next year. Instead of it being an ATO, he gets paid more as someone under contract with Laval.

It’s pretty well known Bergevin asked specifically for Cody Glass and had Vegas said yes, he would’ve been in Montreal. So it is dumb luck even if Suzuki was plan B.

It's not dumb luck. That narrative is false. Everyone rags on him for asking for Glass first. But people forget that Glass was a 6th OA pick, and at the time, in the WHL, he was putting up great numbers. It wasn't the Glass that ended up turning pro and having injury issues.

Also, if they got Suzuki, it's because him and his staff (Timmins in particular) felt he was also a great prospect to get in the deal. They could have easily said no if they didn't get Glass.

Hope he goes through the Helleybyuk path, kills AHL next season, takes over as #1 midway through following year and doesn't look back.

Well, well, the semantics make a little more sense. ATO sound like BS like the majority working at Morgan Stanley are Vice Presidents... Nuh hun...
