Before the season my hot take was that CBJ is in the playoffs and wins a round.... but will be cheering MTL extra hard this night, since without them CBJ will enter the playoffs on a ridiculous heater.

It's extremely hard for me to cheer against Columbus making the playoffs for very obvious reasons. I know they're a division rival, but what can I say, I'm a sucker for a good story.

Columbus making the playoffs would also result in a meltdown among Montreal fans, which is an added bonus.

Hard to see Montreal blowing it against Carolina tonight at home though. Have to imagine the Canes are resting some players tonight, but who knows - maybe the owner wants them to knock Montreal out of the playoffs as payback for the Aho offer sheet and they rest guys tomorrow instead?

I like Doomer too, but he turns 34 in Sept. No way I move Sieg's in order to keep Doom.

If that was the implication.

I wonder if he'd accept a 6-7th d role? I prefer him over Dillon. However, I'm loyal and want to keep Dillon after what I saw from him this season.

Siegenthaler hasn't been healthy since 2023. When he's healthy, he's good defensively. I wonder if the recent injuries might concern management. Him and another prospect might fetch us bottom 6 support.

If you pay him enough I'm sure he'd accept a 3rd pair role. Doubt he'd sign up for a 7th D though.

I'm doubting we look to move Dillon, not sure his ntc status, but I imagine Fitz likes his toughness. He is our best fighting, biggest hitting, regular player.

I wouldn't if I were him too, but I think we should try and convince him to stay.

Re: Dillon, I like that about him too. He stepped up for Noesen last night during a board battle with Zadorov. We will need to stick up for ourselves a lot during the Canes series, it's not optional. Not sure we see that from any other defensemen, except maybe Kovy.

this is....absolutely absurd lol

Siegs is one of the best defensive DMen in the NHL and is signed to a great contract

I love Dumoulin personally, but not at the expense of Siegenthaler. That’s crazy talk.

The numbers game just doesn’t add up sadly for Dumoulin here. He can clearly still play, he shouldn’t stay here unless there’s a given role for him. He’s far too good to be a 7th defender.

I think we should sign Dumo as a 7th dman! And he will be inserted into the lineup whenever one of the D needs a night off or is injured. You might also see him in over Dillon or Siegs for periods of time. At this point in his career a year for 1.5 might intrigue him. You can never have enough Dmen like him. Especially a playoff team.

I stumbled on to this video and thought it was pretty interesting. It looks at the development of the game through the years. It's a little long, so it's not for everyone.

That said, if anyone has any hidden gem youtube channels, please send them my way. Hockey related only. No OnlyFans.

Unfortunately I think he’ll get much more enticing offers on the open market.

players are certainly getting a lot better which is why i think waynes point record will fall in our lifetime (knock on wood) but i think its also got a lot to do with "defense" not really being like it used to be. you watch any game and theres a dozen chances for a team to lay a huge hit and instead they stand down or just go for a stick check. i'm not even talking a cheap hit where a penalty would get called. example shown in clip michigan goals aren't some crazy skill that just was learned now its just that defenses allow it a lot easier. add in expansion watering down the talent goals will definitely skyrocket

What’s the ceiling for this kid? 4th line bruiser who can chip in 5-10 a year?

i'm not going to pretend to know the ins and outs of capology like most on here do. is this kid going to play in the playoffs? do they think so lowly of him that they are fine burning a year on his ELC? further are they not going to give that russian kid a shot now because they dont want to burn a year of his ELC?

then off topic how is that other kid i kept reading about in euro doing lanni? lenni?

thanks i'll hang up and listen to the response

Lachance's contract starts in 2025-26, so no he will not be playing this year for NJ. He is not close to being NHL ready. His ELC doesn't burn a year, since he will be 22 before 9/15 he IIRC can only sign a 2-year ELC. There is no burning of a year involved.

see and here i am thinking this kid would be dressing the way it was announced like it was a big deal. so basically we will see him dealt at the deadline next year or the year after with a 2nd round pick to bring in someone

I think you’re underestimating how big Gretzky’s career points number is.

If you have a 20 year career then you need to average 142 points a season.

That’s 21 points higher than the current points leader this season and that’s what you have to average, not a high water mark.

In the last 10 seasons only 2 players have gotten to the 142 point mark.

So ya, it still looks effectively impossible to catch Gretzky’s points record.

players are going to play longer then they used to play and when you get "close" enough there will certainly be bad enough teams willing to take player on to drive the chase/ticket sales biggest factor is going to be a player staying healthy which with the game being less physical i dont see being an issue
