Confirmed with Link: Jacob Fowler sign with Habs and a AHL with Laval!!

The Fowler signing is an interesting one because he's on a very, very short list of ATO-eligible players who was offered a full AHL deal for the remainder of the season after signing his ELC.

The kid is getting paid to play in the AHL which wouldn't have happened on an ATO. Good for him.

Give and take in relation to the ELC starting next year.

For next season. Folks were hinting at wanting Primeau gone, but if both are gone, that leaves us with a rather annoying hole.

Dobes doesn't seem to be any better than Cayden with irregular starts also...
Give Dobes at least 1.0-1.2 games per week at the start of next year.

oh cool, did you have a source on this? First time I'm hearing it and I've only seen it referred to an ATO so far.

I'd hope so myself as well, that said what if we have an injury to Monty or Dobes?

Fowler needs his starter time in Laval... That leaves us with a hole, if we don't hire a UFA backup like Allen or resign our own RFA Primeau.

It's always an issue trying to plan in advance which 3rd string goalie you could get that will not cost you games in the NHL but would clear waivers.

It's either a case by case waiver decision or you get a hard-to-find guy around 23-24 who is still waiver exempt. Teams don't deal them easily if they're good. Might cost a good prospect at a positon of surplus.

nifty, can't remember us doing this before. So the logic is that this pays him out an entire AHL season's worth of $ VS whatever he'd have received for an ATO? Pretty sweet.
He would have gotten nothing on an ATO except per diem, so a daily allowance vs even the minimum AHL deal which is USD $52,000 minimum. It's a way to pay him so he doesn't miss much relative to his NHL ELC. I am assuming he got the max signing bonus paid now on his ELC plus the AHL salary.

Edit: and no, I don't think we have done this before. Struble got an ATO when he left college, so did Farrell.

Didn't realize the ATO was just per diem, that must be brutal

Farrel signed his elc and burned a year. I think you meant Tuch

If he didn't want Suzuki, he would have refused the deal. And i've seen Bergevin describing the deal. He said he really liked Glass, and asked about Suzuki to Timmins, because he didn't know him well. It's pathetic how several fans here, always, always try to discredit Bergevin. Everything good during his tenure came from what he received from the previous management, but now, everything good is on Hugues, when this last has received a lot of good players/draft selections/draftees from Bergevin.

Funny thing is also that most of the fans here also wanted Glass, instead of Suzuki. But now, they blame Bergevin because he wanted Glass

Anyway, i am loosing my time when i am defending Bergevin the monster
Give me your second best prospect for what Pacioretty was at the time in 2017 is not a flex for Bergevin. He lost the negotiation. That’s all my point is. If Bergevin had his way, we would’ve had a bust. There’s no nicer way to frame it for it for you.

Hilarious how Purple Pants still has defenders and apologists on here despite the damage he did to this franchise.

The Suzuki trade was simply a broken clock moment for him. Pure luck.

Farrell got an ELC.

I wouldn't go that far. Bergevin basically made a lot of good deals, but twice as many bad ones/missed his chance due to his overly conservative approach to GMing. Suzuki trade is lucky, but countless GMs got lucky on trades we just don't hear about it

What will probably happen is Fowler will get a couple of games and Primeau will defend in the playoff

I expect him to share the duties next year and be our number 1 goalie in the AHL with some NHL game in 2026-27

Didn't ask for him more than didn't want him.
Bergevin may not have not asked for Suzuki but if he really did want him, he’d have made him a negotiating target. Unless someone has information where Bergevin only asked for Glass as a subterfuge to get Suzuki, which no one has ever shown to my knowledge.
