Cuylle not so quietly had another good game

Loved seeing him give Fusilli the business too
Gustafsson has been a great player for us as well . I love how he helps speed up the rush part of the game for us ......Fox just does not have that in his arsenal...more razzle dazzle from Fox and everybody then left waiting for him at the blueline . Gustafsson has been vital to our start so far . That's not a knock against Fox...but Gus has given us a different look we have not had since Tony D was here . It is helping .

That's a good call but Gus is better defensively than DeAngelo, which for some reason the narrative on him has been that he's poor defending, which is not true at all.

I wish I was good with technology. At around 1:20 or so left in the 3rd period, Gustafsson made this just insane stop at the blue-line to keep the puck in and then made this insane elevated pass to Zibs.

It didn't lead in a goal, but it was just an utterly unreal sequence of events to see. Like, that was vintage Erik Karlsson level skill, there. What a f***ing sequence for him even if it didn't end in a goal.

Really like bringing him in. He's been a great find for us and I really hope we can re-sign him.

On another note, I would have titled this thread "Windbreaker."

Missed opportunity.
I would have gone with:

Jack***t

I'd argue

McD-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-Klein

Was equivalent. Less top end ability, but much better depth.

I know that most Rangers fans like Staal-Stralman more than Miller-Trouba but I think the bottom pair is much better this year. I much prefer Gus over Klein and I think Moore and Schneider are a wash. So I'm not sure about the depth. I also think Fox being significantly better than anyone in that D corps is a big deal.

I've been puzzled by Gustafsson's treatment in general. With Caps he was fantastic, amazing performance metrics, great point production, by far the best 5on5 D for Caps, pacing for a solid 55 point season. And then Leafs acquire him, and what do they do? Make him the 7th defenseman, play him a couple minute a game, play absolute plugs over him, etc. because "he can't play defense" even though metrics disagree with that. And then they dump him and sign Klingberg's corpse for 4mil. Because Klingberg sure can play defense.

Yeah, I don't even know.
Yes it makes no sense. The talent evaluation and asset management in the NHL defy all logic quite often.

Gus:800k Trouba: 8 mil …….what is he better at??

It's really hard to be overly dramatic over an 11-2-1 team but I wonder how much better we'd look if the Mika and Chytil goals counted in the first Columbus game. Neither player has had one 5 on 5 goal. I know Chytil is injured and played fewer games but I wonder if those goals would have upped his and Mika's confidence and resulted in better 5 on 5 production.

As for Chytil, should that be a cause for concern? Suspected concussion and if he's still off skates for this long, then he might be having post-event symptoms and issues.

Concerning Chytil, Is it getting to the point where we have to think about moving on?

There's a world where we move Laffy to Center. Bump Trocheck Down. Have Othmann move in to RW.. If not this season, maybe next?

Rushing Othmann is a very bad idea. I don't get any indication that he is ready. He should spend the entire year in Hartford as Cuylle did.

I'm not entirely opposed to moving on from Chytil at the end of the season if they can find a good return.
