I am seriously more and more impressed with Mackinnon each game I watch him in. I can totally see why it appears to a lot of people that they’re in different tiers. I do think Mackinnon is ahead but definitely don’t agree on tiers, if people want to say Mack is as close right now to mcdavid as anyone else that’s probably true. The way they both dominate is different, just as the way they skate. Mackinnon is more explosive and yeah when healthy his company around him is better but he proved he could do this even without. When Eichel steps on the ice the pace of the game changes. The sabres are almost always chasing the play if not. In ways I feel bad for both guys as much as you can feel bad for immensely talented millionaires both guys want to win badly after being in this league for close to half a decade and you see it in there faces, knowing that when you go to sit on the bench you know your team is relying on you so much you can never really feel “at rest.” When shifts are as short as they are and knowing your team counts on you so much, and every time your out there knowing you have to make the most of your time can weigh in on the mind.
I think a lot of people underestimate just how exhausting that can be for star players who don’t have depth lines that score.
The added pressure KNOWING every single time YOU’RE on the ice that you have to be the difference maker whilst constantly staring At either the best shutdown or best talents the other team has.

There's 20 straight up off the top of my head who have more impact on winning a game than Eichel has. I got to even 14 forwards before I even entertained Eichel. So yeah, Eichel is a top 30 player maybe. Top 10 is an absolute joke.
You do realize if you asked every GM if they’d rather have x player at their age or a 23 year old franchise talent like Eichel as a 1 C, you might get close to half of that list before jack? Maybe. And even if you do guess where that puts eich? Around 10. Which is exactly where you said he wouldn’t be.
Have fun wanting Eichel to be lower while naming today’s Duncan Keith.
You even listed tavares and Matthews, well you just completely wrecked your own argument there because Toronto has both of them and are behind buffalo in the standings who have zero players in your list.
I also notice you picked the forwards in front of Eichel Marchand, Pastrnak, and don’t get me wrong it’s fine but you seem to be giving them credibility for being high in scoring? So why not Eichel? Especially since those two have each other while Eichel is doubling his own linemates in points. You really haven’t watched him play hockey I don’t think. He’s got 23 points alone on a 13 game point streak.
He played like this last year too but a lot of the chances hat are going in now didn’t then. It was only a matter of time because he’s dominated offensive zone possession metrics (and been a top five in shots type player) for he past few years. You can’t keep doing that and not get lucky, other names who do this (Ovechkin, Mackinnon, mcdavid) He’s a top ten forward in this league, and this year has played arguably like a top five player. You can say “absolute joke” all you want but you know at the end of the day you wish this was a joke.
So now that we can’t bash his stats or his skills or even his work ethic we’re gonna start picking “his ability to win games”? A player that has no other guy but him even above 25 points in his team and is in the ice 1/3 of every game. And still has been in on half the goals they’ve scored? Just no logic my friend.
