I can't justify giving this guy 6 mil when we're sitting here discussing if he needs some extended rest after 30 starts.

p.s Not saying you want to give him 6 mil...just using your post as an intro to mine.

It's not like we're telling him to sit home and miss several starts ala Jake Allen in STL. If it happens, he'll be missing one start.

He's not playing well and Mrazek hasn't played enough so far.

With Campbell looking a little worn out already, is it a little concerning that they may hand him the net for the foreseeable future?

I'd give Mrazek the next 3 of 4 considering the opponents we have. Let him play vs NYI, Detroit and NJ. Give Campbell the Ducks game

Regardless, I'm not too worried about Soup. He'll find his way

Soup may or may not be overworked on it just might be that he is coming back down to earth. Some predicted his SV% will come down and here we are. Tocchet on Kyper and Bourne said the games get much tougher for goalies in the New Year and here we are. Was anybody expecting Soup to play at the level he has been for the whole year. Our hope is that he can do it in the playoffs because that is where he will be judged.

I think Soup isn't overworked he is just run into some bad games. Hockey is that way with small sample sizes,( 4 games or so). That is why I say playoffs are a crapshoot. Hit them at the right time you're golden, hit them at the wrong time you're done in 4 straight.

Might be mental fatigue from having to be super dialed in night after night. How many routine win type efforts has the team given him since the return to play?

Mark my words, we risk burning this guy out for nothing. Keefe needs to think big picture, just get in, don’t keep the whip going on one horse before the real stretch in May. This is filler hockey atm.

100% this. Playing net for the Leafs is the highest pressure job in NA pro sports and especially so this season after all our playoff failures, there is more pressure than ever. He must feel like he has no help from the backup and is carrying the load all by himself. It might be a case where he is fine physically but just needs a break to recharge his batteries mentally.

Do not burn out our most important player before the playoffs start. Give the guy a break!

I believe the Leafs goal is to win the division and Soup gives them the best chance. Another mistake that might cost them in round #1. But there is a silver lining if they lose in round #1. The end of Shanny and Kyle.

Based on Jack Campbell's over usage by coach Keefe, it appears he has little faith in his GM bosses choice Mrazek in a 1A/1B tandem plan.

Even when healthy now JC keeps getting tapped on the back to start and Mrazek to keep sitting on the bench, even when his play is starting so signs of burnout or decline.

Wonder if it will take an actual injury to Campbell to force change as opposed to simply giving him a rest and trusting his backup that makes over 2 X more $ than he does?

Tune in next week, when mrazek playing 2-3 games allows our mod Mess to post "Keefe has clearly lost faith in Campbell!!!! Goalie controversy!!!".

P.s. Jack has played....

....2 games in the last 10 days.
....6 games in the last 36 days.

And ranks 7th in the league with 29 games played on the season (I.e. 29 games in the last 100 days).

My two cents:
Jack is over worked. Imo not. He's has many days off between games lately. If this is true though it could be the mental strain of starting so many games. This would lead me to believe he's a tandem goalie.

Jack has too many days off between games. This is very possible and viable thought as it's hard to stay in the zone mentally with so much time off.

The book is out on Jack. I said from last year his play when the puck is close or behind the goal line. His play is sloppy there. Need to keep an eye on this. This is troublesome because at this stage out coaches should have identified this and worked with Jack on it. If they have and he just can't correct it in game play, it's a flaw, which e ery goalie has, but a pretty big one.

All 3 of these have solutions, the third being the scariest Imo as it hasn't improved since the nce last year, so that makes me think he is unable to make that adjustment in game as his reflexes take over.

Let's see how this unfolds

Edit. The fourth option and also very probable is that his having a down stretch as all goalies have. This probability is also very high.

Mrazek starting next game…

Jack Campbell has been everything and delivered more than anyone could have expected so far this season. Rock steady in net particularly shutting the door in the 3rd and Leafs MVP this season.

Mrazek has only the one start on his road trip and lost to Arizonia one of the weakest teams in the league, now he gets to start against NYI the bottom of the Metro who just played and beat Arizona 4-0 last night and are on a back to back and tired.

If a rested Leafs team in front of Mrazek can't win tonight, I don't know the next time we will see him as he can't get any easier starts and opportunities.
