Hi Guys

Just wondering what kind of RHD we could get for JT Miller in trade.

He was our leading scorer last year, is again this year, and is tied for 7th OA in league scoring as we speak.

He has been awesome, and has played much, much better than his years in Tampa

Great on face offs and plays all 3 forward positions

So, whatcha offering?

Thanks

if he stays in the top group of the scoring race, I cannot see why he cant fetch a Pulock, Parayko or Weegar. Thats the value, they are not on the market though, Pelech is what canucks really need, if only he shoots right.

He can’t fetch the first two you listed. They’re signed longterm at a good AAV whereas Miller only has till next season left on his deal.

No way Florida even considers that swap. Weegar is their 2nd best dman and is rock solid, plus their top 6 is already stacked. They have no need for Miller.

The problem with trading Miller for an equivalent rd is that the teams that have equivalent rd need them more than Miller.

If we wanted to trade Miller, unless something changes with one of the teams that have equivalent rd, we would have to trade him for someone lesser like Murphy, Manson, Petry (only lesser because of his age and contract). Best case scenario is that we get a small add like a 2nd and a prospect. But I think our hole at rd is so big that we might have to consider it.

Miller at 50% for a bluechip prospect and a 1st or an equivalent package is the deal that makes sense.

Anyone acquiring Miller is trying to win right now, they're not going to give back an equivalent RHD. You're getting a prospect back so they can win now and you can maybe win later. The return has to have a shot at providing the kind of value down the road that Miller brings right now.

Two seasons of a PPG 1st line winger who can also play centre for 2.6M should create an insane bidding war among the contenders. Jets, Avs, VGK, Blues, Bruins, Panthers, Leafs and Hurricanes all make sense as teams that are trying to win now and in theory should be willing to pay big time to get Miller at 50% retained.

I think the problem with RHD is that they have become such a unicorn that any "hockey trade" would actually net you an overall downgrade because of supply and demand.

The only option really, is that Miller is worth a pretty reasonably chanced lotto ticket prospect RHD plus a pick or something, but the Canucks are not in the greatest position to take such a gamble as it stand now.

The template trade I sometimes think about (literally no idea how the value here works, just the concept) is Miller for Peeke and a pick. A defenseman who may breakout to a very solid top 4 RHD but may also too out as bottom pair.

He is probably going to get a hefty contract. No interest from Calgary.

50% Miller retained, who is a 70 point 1st line center and can be used on PP PK and 5 v 5 only fetches a prospect and a pick? This aint it chief

Vancouver fans always want to trade their best players so they can be in a perpetual state of rebuilding. They love to lose for 50 more years and develop players for other teams like a farm team ;)
Yeah man it’s fun. It’s actually said to be the number one reason for a huge spike in births here in Vancouver. Perpetual mediocrity turns us on so much.

Or… some of us have brains and we realize that you need defense to win. And you need to give to get.

Would love to have him back in a NYR sweater.
I would prefer him on the left side and we have no room on the left side. He wouldn't get as many minutes with Panarin there. You could push him to Line 1 w/Zibanejad and Kreider on the off-wing, but then fans would just complain that our young players aren't getting any development time. It just wouldn't work out unless NYR gave up on some players.
