Antics at the end? You mean the American instigated scrum because of repeated hits on Khudobin (the goalie). I really dont get how saying Russians dont have class, Canadians have some class makes him a classy kid....

Personally I like him less after that comment than before.

Doesn't count as a fight? What is it then? Christ dude, wake up.

And the Russians put an exclamation point on their wins? Team USA ran the score up on Norway. Neither teams are saints, and getting 5 goals isn't a classless act, its a reasonable score.

The only thing that wasn't right was putting Malkin on the ice with minutes left, I'll give you that. But still, the cheap play by the American's was just begging for trouble.

I never said Russia was classy, just that Canada isn't exactly a team to root for on the basis of "class"

It's a valid sub-topic. Its a thread about what he said in the USA Today article.

Calm yer jets for a second "dude." I never once said the Russians were classless and you'll have to excuse me for knowing the difference between a hockey fight and a minor skirmish...obviously, your weeks of hockey experience have given you a bit of a "God complex." I said all the kids have shown class given the control of the games and I never said anything about the Russians playing Malkin late either. I'm not into team bashing our country bashing for that matter so please don't misquote me.

Or maybe the Canadian can taunt the Russians when they break out into tears after the game (a la Ovechkin). Oh wait, Canada did handle that with class last year, paticularly against a group of Russians that had rubbed the U.S. noses in defeat.

Yep, typical classless Canadians. . .

I love reading when americans and canadiens whine after the loss to Russia. It either that or the measurment of hockey sticks that Canada is most famous for when losing to us. lol. Class all over North american hockey. Keep on whining. I'll see this poor Johnson whine in NHL when some player will call his mother a whore or something in order to get power play. I can see the headlines on USA Today after the game, and Johnson whining that the team taunted him all game long. Idiot.

It could easily have been fighting majors had the players not wimped out and left their gloves on

weeks of hockey experience? cummon, don't start making baseless personal shots

Didn't see Russian "wimps" dropping gloves last night.

Sooo, when was the last time a Canadian team even had the oportunity to whine about a loss to Russia?

It's on topic if you mean it fits in with your own agenda of bashing team Canada at every opportunity.

I mean really, going back to the '72 series *LOL*

And Canadian breaking of star player's ankles and shoulders from Kharlamov to Ovechkin?

This taunting comment by JJ was about the last year's semi-final because I haven't noticed any taunting in this game. And what this comment had to do with today's game? Schremp made a similar comment as JJ and IMHO Schremp was one of the main guys who catalysed all this heat at the end of the game. He took the penalty on Kulemin and then hitted him in face after the whistle and behaved himself pretty poor at that moments. Then Zubarev hitted someone in face and then that scramble around the Russian goalie.

Johnson remembers what the Russians did last year to the Americans. They taunted the bench and taunted their fans thats why he isn't cheering for the Russians because last year the Russians didn't show any class.

USA played pretty dirty at last year's semi-final so partly I can understand Malkin's taunting. Emelin received pretty blatant stick in face, Ovechkin hands in face, Shafigulin's face was smashed in board's glass, Schremp broke his stick on Parshin's leg. Malkin was like: So what now? Prove yourself in a game on a scorsheet and not in dirtiness and bitterness. USA didn't show any example of class and now they have some pretensions.

Russia likes to skirmish at the end of games more than any team in the tournament, if that is the measuring stick of class, Russia is utterly classless.

Always and forever. But if you need some proof, go to TSN.CA wjc section. Click on history and see it by yourself.

I seem to recall a seven-year gold medal drought at the World Juniors for Canada up until last year.... pick one of those years?

Trying to figure out the difference between the "heroic slash by Clarke on Varlamov" and "Johnson's elbow to Downie's head"

Oh yeah, the abscence of outrage over Clarke's celebrated "team-first" move...

Nobody glorifies Clarke's actions.

The entire Summit Series was a very dirty affair. There were unacceptable slashes, kicking and a plethora of stick work. Neither nation came out of it smelling like roses.

These Euro vs. NA threads are classics. Euros whining about the physical games the NA players play. Yes, we hit too hard. Yes, we like to fight. No, we are not going to let a Euro come onto NA ice and showboat. If you want to play with us, know that we don't play nice and be ready for it. Quit the crying that NA hockey is "dirty" or "classless". Euro's think NA players are classless. NA's think most Euro players are *****'s. How many years have we been doing this? Can we not just move on?

I definately lost a lot of respect for JJ after this comment. I liked him for his hit on Downie and think he's a good player, but I hate it when tough players do a 360 a whine like this. It's pathetic.

I agree.

It was a dirty hit on a dirty player. I don't see why it's still an issue today.
I totally agree and I'm a huge JJ fan. Also its unreal how the Russians always get painted as "the bad guy". Last year they didn't start taunting until O'Sullivan swung his stick at a Russian players head because he couldn't take a clean hit. This year the Russians laid out some bomb hits and didn't start acting up until Schremp crosschecks a player in the face. You don't hear of them having trouble against any other teams.

If you want to talk about classy, talk about how the Russians raised their sticks to salute the support of the Canadian fans at the end of the game.

I've lived through that history. I know the record. I've been following hockey since 1967. Where's the whining? Teams come and go. Ups and down, that's the way of it. The Canadiens were unstoppable in the '60's...and now?
To believe what happened 30 years ago, nevermind 3 years ago, has any bearing on what will happen in the next 5 years in sports is moronic.

Not to mention that no Russian should be challenging the legitimacy of Canada's victory given the "officiating" that they endured in the last four games.

As far as Jack Johnson goes, actions speak louder than words. His words dont mean anything. He will show his class when he goes a good long time without deliberately trying to injure an opponent.
