The threads where this post could go are locked, and I don't think it has been posted yet, but if anyone has read the USA Today article on the USA-Russia game you will know what I am talking about.

Jack Johnson, interviewed only minutes after the Americans lost and I'm sure was pretty fired up with the antics at the end, said he would be cheering hard for the Canadians because they play with class and the US team feels the same as he does.

Pretty classy comment from a classy guy if you ask me, when it would be very easy for a guy who had been ridden hard all tournament for an overblown incident and his team booed throughout every game by Canadian fans to keep cool-headed after defeat.

Kudos to him - you're going to be a star in the years ahead. Very professional kid.

So I guess he likes teams that play the opposite of the way the USA does.

Jack Johnson is an amazing player and looks to be a great kid, he was really classy in the TSN article about him as well.

his attempt to knock off downies head didn't make him look like too good of a kid. just because he says a small quote about cheering for Canada cuz they have more class than the Russian team doesn't mean he's a good kid, or that he's going to be a great player. Though I'm sure he will be.

I was so mad at him after the Downie hit but after watching more he has become one of my favorite prospects. I was hoping to see him and his brother out there in the last two minutes of the game but it was a smart move by Kyle not to put them out there.

I had a bit of a problem with the Canadians jumping and taking head-shots at the Finns while checking all game last night. The better team won, no question, but I don't think that was very classy..

Yeah, Canada has so much more class than Russia

So much class that Canada started a brawl against Norway for no reason...

Canada and USA are the two "dirty" teams in this tournament if you had to pick 2

Russia played a very technically sound game and beat the Americans fair and square, so Johnsons excuse is that the Russians have no class? What a steaming pile of...

What a loser JJ is. Here is what he said:
"Just because Canada is a class act team and Russia is big in taunting and everything," Johnson said. "We just like the way Canada carries itself, and I have a (University of Michigan) teammate on Canada."

Taunting and everything? I wonder what that really means? This probably means this: Russia kicked our butts hard last night and I am such a poor loser so I will try to diminish Russian team as musch as I could in the press. What a LOSER! This guy has no class at all!

People need to get over the Downie thing already. I guess a Canadian player has never done anything like that, huh? Johnson is gonna be a great NHL player and he's showing a lot more class than most of the idot 'fans' in Vancouver.

I definately lost a lot of respect for JJ after this comment. I liked him for his hit on Downie and think he's a good player, but I hate it when tough players do a 360 a whine like this. It's pathetic.

I agree.

It was a dirty hit on a dirty player. I don't see why it's still an issue today.

Since when does an elbow to the head become overblown.

I know he is not known as a head hunter and I will not brand him that as I can see he is going to have a big future in the NHL, but please be a little more objective.

And who do expect the Americans to cheer for...Thier old cold war foes or thier neighbours to the North. Many of the US teams players probably play either college or juniour with many of the Canadian team members.

So it has nothing to do with class.

Trying to figure out the difference between the "heroic slash by Clarke on Varlamov" and "Johnson's elbow to Downie's head"

Oh yeah, the abscence of outrage over Clarke's celebrated "team-first" move...

The same article that he was saying Downie embelished the hit...that's real class.

People keep throwing this word "Class" or "Classy" around as if everyone played the game with a ten thousand dollar Armani suit on or something.

okay, someone needs to explain to me what Johnson has done that is so classy? Does he walk around with a top hat on?...I havn't seen anything wonderfully classy about the guy..

His taunting comment about Russia is things like the Russians scoring a goal then making fun of the American team because they scored or laughing at them. Things like that, like it or not Russian teams have a reputation for such things lately. Ovechkin was bad for that.

First, there wasn't a brawl against Norway. Second, Canada did the same thing that the Russians did against the US except the player from Norway actually hit Pogge instead of being pushed in like Bourque was pushed into Khudobin.

Johnson remembers what the Russians did last year to the Americans. They taunted the bench and taunted their fans thats why he isn't cheering for the Russians because last year the Russians didn't show any class.

I don't see many people gloat about what a wonderful slash it was...in fact, quite the opposite.

Hey the Finns are an aggresive checking team and not know to be the cleanest of players...

Jack and Eric Johnson are not brothers. They are not even related

It was a classy statement, but most likely prepared with some thought, that probably wasn't mostly his, and can be seen as mostly damage control for his poor sportsmanship at the end of the US-Canada game.

An interesting point in the article is that I think the US team is in a better position to judge the treatment they received in Vancouver. And apparently the entire team has no problem with what transpired there over the tournament(the booing of Johnson and the cheering for the underdog teams). These mere "boys", which has been stated many times by a few upset US fans, seem to be able to see the heckling etc for what it really was and not an attack on the entire US population.

Good luck to team USA in the bronze medal game.

Yeah, it's because of that slash on Kharlamov that I don't see Canada as the real winners of that tournament...I don't respect cheaters

edit: When I was younger I used to love watching the 72 series shows on tv and watch the history of it and how Canada won, so its kinda sad that entire Canadian pride factor is just gone once I overlooked the slash and realized how we won
