Curious....in hindsight, were you wrong about Anderson as a sleeper?

He's 23 now like Bratt and while he's played just 58 NHL games total, his numbers don't exactly shout breakout...
The post wasn't saying I was right about any of these guys, they were just players I personally thought were sleepers who the Devils actually drafted. I was replying to a post where someone mentioned they were worried that all the sleepers I identified in my prospect write-ups would not be drafted by the Devils.

As for Joey Anderson, I still feel he can catch on as a 4th liner somewhere. Not sure it will be Toronto, though. But for his type of player, I'm not willing to give up on him quite yet.

Joey really got a raw deal with a trade to Toronto. I really liked his game with New Jersey. Kinda crazy to think he's only a year older than Boqvist and Zetterlund.

Cooley is pretty impressive. If he falls past five he looks like a home run pick there.
Cooley's likely draft slot is higher than #5. If the order stays the same as it is now, I see him at #2 overall to Arizona. Teams need centers, and Cooley offers the best skill/speed combination in the entire draft aside from Brad Lambert, who lacks Cooley's intangibles and more complete game.

I can't think of many teams that would have Cooley after 2 unless they really love one of the two D's

Here's McKeen's 2022 draft rankings, which I was just looking over today.

I disagree with them a lot, but I like any scouting bureau which factors in multiple votes for their overall rankings, because they're never knee-jerk. It's also worth noting that they have Simon Nemec at #2 overall.

This is a list from Jan 21st, I’m sure it will change with the next update.

Holmes has Perevalov at 62. Jiricek, Slafkovsky and Gauthier are on fun places too.

pretty interesting development here, cam robinson moving over to team jiricek. i wanna say hes had nemec top 3 all year

I've been saying this for awhile, and I'm going to stick to it:

Simon Nemec is an outstanding defenseman. If the Devils are drafting at #5 and Jiricek is already gone, Nemec would be the obvious pick, and the NJ fans should be thrilled to get such a talented young player.

But if they're both on the board? You have to take Jiricek. His upside is rare and unique. He is dynamic in several aspects and his upside is perennial Norris candidate. I see things in his game which at least partially remind me of a young Byfuglien or Pronger.

Right now, Jiricek is my #3 and Nemec is my #4 overall. But to be perfectly honest, it's pretty close between my top 3 of Wright/Slafkovsky/Jiricek right now. Wright might be the best player in the draft as of today, but I feel Slafkovsky and Jiricek offer the most pure upside.

If NJ lands at number 2 would you take Slafkovsky or Jiricek? My apologies if you already answered that but I can't recall seeing it. Then again, I'm old and senile.

I'm not sure yet, to be honest. But I will say that would also be my choice if the Devils were drafting #1. Both Slafkovsky and Jiricek represent the two player types the Devils need the most, and they are also the two players with the greatest upside in the draft.

It’s probably blasphemous to hope the Flyers win a lotto ball (assuming the Devils do not) but if is that a crazy notion considering they may be our biggest threat to taking Jiricek? It would just royally suck to lose out on him by one spot and to the Flyers of all teams. Thoughts?

From what I've been hearing in Flyers-land, they're really confident for the 2022 draft because their two biggest wants are RD and C, and they'll definitely get a very good one at #4 or #5 overall. I'd have to say their targets would likely be Cooley or Jiricek or Nemec. This would be my mock as of today:

1 MTL Wright
2 ARI Cooley
3 SEA Slafkovsky
4 PHI Jiricek
5 NJ Nemec
6 CLB Geekie
7 OTT Gauthier

Steve, any reason you have Philly taking Jiricek over Nemec? Just wondering

What are the odds that Philly picks Geekie or just the possibility both Nemec and Jirieck fall to us directly? Further, if that happened, which one would we want to select out of the two?

Jiricek has more upside than Nemec, both offensively and defensively. Nemec is the better player right now.

I don't think Phlly takes Geekie in the top 5.

Agree tough call normally you would assume your you take the right shot dman but Slafkovsky offers a lot of what we need at fwd....Does he have the nasty streak to his game like Svechnikov on the canes?
