I liked Morrissey deal a lot vs Provorov deal.. 6 years is not enough imo. should of steal 1-2 UFA years with almost 7M a year payoff. It is what it is.

We did steal 2 years of UFA with Provorov. He's played 3 years so far and would be a UFA after the 4th year of this extension. Year 5&6 are UFA years
I meant let him ufa around 30-31yo... 28-29yo is early and after the season that he had and contract of similar players like Slavin and Morrissey. 7m is a huge salary.

Eh screw it, let’s hope this doesn’t devolve.

I don’t think either is wrong.

By the way, Provorov spent a much higher percentage of his time with Couturier than Werenski did with Panarin last year. This is what I mean when I say I have QoT concerns.

Hopefully the change of systems helps and my concerns are all addressed.

Hopefully Vigneault will continue to have one of our best defensemen on the ice with one of our best forwards lol.

As for Micah and his models, I do think they are very valuable but I don't think they paint the entire picture as much as he wants us to believe they do. Just another tool in the toolbox.

I do not mind the Prov contract it is doable and i like him as a player. It is not as team friendly as Morrissey's contract for sure but its' good deal for both sides .

Reading this makes me realize I should have been more clear. It’s alarming the way his QoT and possession metrics line up. Of course he’s going to play a large number of Minutes with the top line. Doing so while still not being an overall possession positive is a red flag.

Some of this will improve a bit with the team’s hopeful depth improvement. I just want a guy held up by the org (fans don’t matter) as a “franchise D” to show signs of being the proverbial straw. There aren’t any yet.

It doesn’t have to tell the whole story, nor should anyone even hint that it does. But it is one of the best public tools we currently have, so defaulting to thinking that it may be on to something and then looking for reasons it might be off in this case seems most prudent. Especially when one of the things his model does well is isolate away the QoT concerns. That fits a pattern.

I have looked for these signs and will continue to do so. Hopefully it’s all there waiting to be unlocked. So far, he’s been much like Gudas in that what he does and doesn’t do well at the NHL level doesn’t match his rep amongst fans. THIS IS NOT A PLAYER COMP.

All fair points that I can't argue with.

Hey you guys I legit hope provy elbows someone in preseason and follows it with a smirky remark for media. I think he can turn out into very special player.
I have thought since I first saw him in a live Flyers game that he had "A" or "C" level leadership ability. Just his presence with and without the puck. The game seemed to slow with him out there.

Seems like a contract of fair value. I just don't see that offensive flair to command the big bucks that he's looking for. I definitely have much higher expectations for this year so I'm excited to see it get started. I imagine from a contract standpoint in Sept / Oct the organization has a slightly easier time getting contracts done.

I don't necessarily get the hate for the Hayes. 2nd line center was a pressing need. This team should be trying to compete for the cup at this point.

My "hate" for him stems from the fact that he pretty much exemplifies the state of the Flyers as someone who is just "blah, meh, average." He very well may be none of those and I don't actually "hate" him. It just doesn't necessarily move the needle of excitement.

I would expect Provy to play most of his mins with Couts because they play against harder competition. I’m not expecting a huge gap in minutes per game with our defense though if they are healthy.

It's really not hate for Hayes, it's his contract.

He got paid for a level of play that didn't even last one full year. It's risky to assume he'll be able to maintain that and also give him trade protection so we're forced to protect him in the expansion draft.

If he goes back to pre-2018-2019 Hayes, it's a bad overpayment.

In order for Hayes to earn his contract, he needs to be a 55-65 point guy with very good defensive play. I think he can absolutely do that. Especially with how good our wingers are.

I don't understand how people are looking at this as a bad deal. This is AT WORST a fair deal and at best will be an absolute steal. People saying he doesn't have offensive flair when he just led the league in goals for Dmen just two years ago? Ok lol
Seems like some are expecting him to be in that 60 point range while not getting PP time lol

They had a bunch of players doing their own thing instead of following instructions. If they ignore Vigneault, they’ll be gone.

I guess we’ll see what version of Hayes got. I’m cautiously hopeful.

I don’t dwell on this kind of stuff so I’m already over the Hayes and Provorov contracts, even though I still don’t agree with them.

All I care about now is what’s to come in the near future (TKs contract and how the roster shapes up) and then how the team plays when the games start, which I’m extremely optimistic about.
